I do understand a RFA can be traded. But it won't happen with Fyfe. Feel free to post more thrilling hypotheticals though.

If Fyfe elects FA and signs with Stk as an example, Freo have the right to match any offer put to Fyfe.

Hence as long as Freo have the cap space (which let's be serious here,  with the new pay negotiations all clubs will be able to afford one way or another but each club will also have different objectives and cap requirements etc, but its a safe assumption that freo will match any and every offer for fyfe. They'd be negligent to the club if they didn't.) and if they match the opposing clubs offers, that means Fyfe is no longer a free agent.

Saints could also end up with a top 3 pick, (Hawks traded pick) plus their own first round pick and then maybe a West Australian Saint who wants to return home, making a big package to offer Dockers.

True but most players dont want to see their old club get shafted either AND most clubs realise what goes around comes around in this area. The cats traded for Dangerfield...thats probably the model that will get played out I reckon.

I'll assume you mean the situation where freo enforce their right to match another contract and nothing to do with restriction of trade or any other legal concept i am not qualifed to.comment on.

I also will state that i dont have the afl rules handy on fa (and i am not sure many people actually would know the exact implications) 

But if fyfe accepts another offer snd freo.match therefore forcing fyfe to stay at freo. 

My assumption would be fyfe would have to refuse the contract and nominate for one of the drafts making it more of a lottery. And I'd assume a few clubs would have cap space for fyfe with the new pay negotiations.

As i said earlier there is a lot of water to go under the bridge. We dont know if he'll leave or if who will make offers. And depending on which club fyfe accepts to.sign with will depend on how negotiations and thr rules can be utilised.

That being said If the lions are his choice nd they hve the first picks in the pre season drafts it makes more sense fyfe could walk (depening on afl rules)

If it were adelaide and they had late picks a trade would make more sense as you'd safely assume someone would grab him in a draft before adelaide and there would be no other way to get fyfe apart from.trading so trading would make.more sense

If neither appeal then fyfe stays put. He has to be traded or drafted or sign under fa. As fyfe is restrixted Each has a consequence which could be affected by freo or another club.

And if freo can match and force a trade they'd be negligent not to get anything (pick/player) for him regardless unless theu get compo or bring in another fa

The scenarios are objective to.the situation and its all guess work atm

I wasn't talking about our players. I mentioned that many of the Freo youth are unproven - as many young players are. Fyfe would be silly to bank on those players mentioned (Logue, Tucker, Balic, Blakely) becoming game changers. And let's face it, Freo will need some of them to become game changers. There has been some proven talent leave that side in the past year or so, and will be more leave the side. I doubt Freo will make the 8 anytime soon. Once Sandilands leaves I see that midfield not getting first use, I look forward to watching Neale and Fyfe not get the ball handed to them on a platter. That will be enjoyable. If Fyfe stays then he deserves to wallow in misery, that Fremantle side is going no where in the future. If Fyfe does decided to leave Fremantle then St Kilda, or even Melbourne are not his only options.

This is exactly what crows did with danger, he was a restricted fa they matched the cats offer and then did a trade 

Did Adelaide match Geelong's offer to Danger? They got a better deal by trading him but I wasn't aware an offer match was made. I thought it was more Danger wanting the best deal for Crows so the club's put their heads together.

Where does FA compo fall if you've traded out your future natural pick or swapped them within a round? Say, if Hawthorn were to hypothetically lose a Band 1 free agent this year?

No they didn't match but would of because danger was returning to Geelong for less than what Adelaide offered. 

 

Rather than going through that process the cats/crows just started negotiating the trade as the matching of the offer was a given(and danger could of still requested a trade or go to the draft even if they matched the offer)

Don't we have our own Fyffe already and who has still got huge upside?

IMO we have a need for more speed to break lines like Bulldogs and Saints.

I seem to recall Danger saying something about getting the best return for the Crows at his B&F speech before leaving. That was about it.

That is an excellent question.

If a club trades a pick 12 months in advance it is logical that they be expected to let the following year's FA compo slip to their next available pick. If you trade 1st and 2nd round picks for following year then a first round FA compo becomes 3rd round pick for that draft.

It would be the next pick after the traded pick. Future trading would have no impact on the compensation.

i.e. If Hawthorn finished last this year and lost a Buddy, they would get pick 2 after St Kilda.

crows offer already on the table exceeded that of geelong. i'd call that "matching the offer"

sure, adelaide and geelong didn't bother going through the afl formalities, they just got together and worked out the trades, but the fact that adelaide did easily match geelong's offer was the trump card to force geelong to the negotiating/trading table.

and whatever, danger was worth it anyway
