saints won twice against bombers, blues and us playing at etihad 6 wins (I think one Carlton game was at the G  actually )

only beat injury ravaged dogs and Geelong on an off day at Etihad as teams inside top 8

the draw last year was flattering to them, by comparison our draw was one of the toughest

In short they beat the teams below them, got smashed interstate and only beat serious top 8 teams on a fast track Etihad

And some are predicting that they'll find another four odd wins to finish in the top six, while holding ground against us, the Bombers, Freo and Carlton and getting their % under control on the road. 14 games at Etihad last season and routinely hammered away.

unless the Saints get a dream draw again and have almost no injuries all year again - they will slide.  8-10 wins.

god I will love it when we beat them next year. LOVE IT!

They'll end up with 14-15 Etihad games again. They'll be gifted a finals berth. Bookmark it.

Yeah, but what did we do against the Bombers and the Blues?  Lost in embarrassing fashion!  They won games they should have won which is something we still need to improve.

I think there's 14 teams who legitimately believe they can make it.  IMO Brisbane, GC, Carlton and North can't - but it's quite likely most of them think they can.

Really, Old? Surely you don't think Richmond can make it, let alone Collingwood. I'm not convinced on Freo either. They'll certainly be better, but I reckon Lyon's game style is finished. Can he reinvent himself?

I actually think the Swans' experience and 'big brother complex' will ensure they stay on top of GWS, but I'd be backing GWS for the flag next year. I'd also expect the Dogs to get into the top 4. That leaves one spot in the top 4 that's open. Now, it depends on how far Geelong and Hawthorn slide. They're both eminently beatable these days and will be more so next year. So I'd be looking at a team like Adelaide to take that fourth spot. That leaves a string of other teams that you could raffle: Hawthorn, Geelong, West Coast, Melbourne, Port Adelaide, Essendon and St Kilda. Collingwood will be a mid-table team again next year, as will Freo. Richmond will find themselves there too or even lower. That leaves the Suns, Carlton, Brisbane and North.

So something like this IMO:

1st - Sydney

2nd - GWS

3rd - Bulldogs

4th - Adelaide

5th - Geelong

6th - Hawthorn

7th - West Coast

8th - Melbourne

9th - St Kilda

10th - Port Adelaide

11th - Essendon

12th - Collingwood

13th - Fremantle

14th - Richmond

15th - Gold Coast

16th - Carlton

17th - Brisbane

18th - North Melbourne

I do genuinely think it is possible for Collingwood, Richmond or Freo to make the 8. They have all improved their lists and Freo will get Fyfe, Bennell and Sandilands back.  Not likely but possible.

Richmond have swapped one injury prone mid for another and got a B grader (at best) in Caddy. Buckley can't coach either. Freo I'll admit is a slight possibility, but only slight.

time for everyone to start taking Hawthorn out - they will miss Rough, Lewis, Mitchell. Who even knows if Jaeger will play but he isn't any of those premiership stars and neither is the new Mitchell

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
