So where does he actually fit into the 22?

Take the team below for argument's sake:

B: Frost  O Mac  Jetta
HB: Hibberd  TMac  Hunt
C: Salem  Jones  Stretch
HF: Petracca  Hogan  Watts
F: Garlett  Pedo/Weed  Kent
R: Gawn  Tyson  Viney
I: Oliver  Brayshaw  Vince  Melksham

Who goes out? Melksham's name sticks out but he's just been brought in, and it isn't to play at Casey. The rest are either mainstays or young players for whom games at senior level is now very important.

I'm in favour of getting him on the cheap as we lack leadership and experience but I'm interested in logistics of where he slots in with his attributes. Granted there will always be injuries but we had a decent injury run with our midfielders last season.

we play the players that are playing the best at all time, no matter who they are. If the above drafting does materialise then we will have reaosonable depth across most areas, so players will know they have to compete to keep a place in our side. We will have injuries from time to time and may need to rest players, so apart from Gawn and possibly Hogan we should have most positions covered. so our remaining draft picks this year need to address that.

One of Kent,  Stretch,  Salem,  Hibberd,  Garlett or Melksham.  But obviously not permanently.  Injuries always happen so instead of bringing in C or D grade depth players when injuries occur,  the team would be bolstered with a decent player on occasions.  A simple reshuffle of positions in your side accommodates Lewis easily.

Lewis would automatically be in our top 3 players if he brought his current form (and that's what we would be buying)

Bringing in an A grade player like Lewis who doesn't know the meaning of quit can only help the club.  If we don't get him, c'est la vie.

Best 22 is an illusion.  Between form, injury and suspensions, how often do teams get to field them?

Very interesting viewing at the 13th minute of this when the panel start talking trade period.

The look on Lewis' face! I know this was filmed pre Brownlow but I'm convinced he must have been thinking of moving on at that point.

He looked down at the desk. Gone.

It's a reference point for where players fit into the pecking order, as well as arguments for whether a player like Lewis fits in as like for like or as part of a structural rearrangement.

A few people on Big Footy seem to think Hunt will be involved in the deal.

Either we are really bloody stupid or that guy is just stirring the plot..... god I hope it's the latter.

BF .pffffffft

I would be livid if Hunt went for Lewis. We need more speed in the team not less.

One or two wishful thinking Hawthorn supporters. No club is trading one of its most promising youngsters for a 31 year old.

Hawk fans on BF have Frost in the deal.  I could see that with Hibberd coming in and J.Smith improving fast.

So Hawthorn are now trying to go from the best kicking team in the competition to the worst in one draft.

Lose 2 elite kicks in Mitchell and Lewis, talk of Birchell as part of the O'Meara deal then and add Frost to a backline that already has Frawley.

Clarko is a bit left field but I doubt this...

I have more chance of being CEO of the AFL, than that has of being true.

I dunno whats better or worse Hunt going or you being AFL CEO. Remember you would have the power of making Royal Decrees like Hunt comes back to us at the start of season 2017 forever.

Can't see any players being involved in this deal. 3rd or 4th round pick for Lewis sounds about right. I'm calling it, I think this will get done and maybe even early in the week

They are the same posters that beleive hunt is worth what he was drafted at... a 3rd round pick... they were just stirring the pot as they are bitter their team is collapsing before their eyes, itll be worste when O'meara doesnt get on the park then they will be really sour.

Most beleive a third round pick is about right...

To save everyone a heart attack, it was 1 or 2 moronic Hawk fans who opined that it 'would be nice' if Hunt was part of the deal. One justified it as a fair swap by saying Hunt "was a pick 57 with two years worth of injuries". All in all, just ridiculous and ludicrous opinions as is the norm on that sub-forum at this time of the year. I can't see how you reached the conclusion that Hunt 'will be involved in the deal' based on that.

Upon reflection, trading Hunt under any circumstances is so unlikely that I doubt anyone, let alone everyone, truly needed saving from a heart attack.

I've checked original pic and he is certainly in the original. Welcome Mr. Lewis!

Well if I was CEO of the AFL it would be run a lot better and fairer.

As far as Hunt goes, he is seen by the Dees as a future top player for us.

He is not going anywhere.

A Collingwood fan said he heard Hunt was in the deal - ridiculous I know.  But Hawks fans did not start it.

Haha, I literally just saw that photo this morning (pre-photoshop). The big hole to the left of Gibson, Lewis is meant to be there.

Sorry, my poorly worded response, anyone would be better than what we have. ( Err,that's not right either) I'll move on....

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
