Also Hodge, Gibson, Burgoyne and so on watching guys they've been through a lot with getting treated quite poorly would be really dissapointing for them, obviously a lot of this is assumption though, would be very interesting to be inside the inner sanctum to really know how this is all playing out.

Talk about him as the next captain, Dunstall also says this with a stupid smug look on his face.

Translation:  He is on his way!!

The pertinent part:  "We received an approach from Jordan Lewis’s management earlier this week regarding the possibility of him joining Melbourne. This was after discussions Jordan had with Hawthorn," the statement read..."We understand that Jordan is contracted to Hawthorn, but we remain interested in looking at this option." 

Makes it pretty clear we did not do the chasing despite the picture Hawthorn are trying to paint! 

Well done mfc to not let the Hawks paint us as the bad guys to save their own skin!!

Edit:  SEN just read out a bit more of mfc's statement - couldn't type fast enough but the additional bit was that Lewis approached the Dees or words to that effect.

I'm of the opinion that Deledio and Lewis are around the same value, though the idiots at Richmond think he's worth a 2nd round pick at the least. It does bring up an interesting quandary though regardless. Deledio vs Lewis ? Similar age, one coming off a 2nd in the b&f, the other coming off an 11 game season but 2 years prior, being a player the team couldn't win a game without. If I was Richmond i'd trade Deledio for Lewis, so I think we are getting a better deal if Lewis comes to us for a 3rd round pick. Has more momentum changing tenacity than 'slick' Deledio.

Absolutely agree - and i'd be willing to do that. Even a player like JKH and I would be happy to part with a second round pick - people are obsessed with draft picks. You have no idea what you're getting.

Lewis is 30 and a 4 time premiership midfielder. they don't grow on trees.

Deledio is a year younger. Has had more injuries and the achilles would be a concern. But he hasn't looked slow when he's played. Lewis has. 

But I think the main difference between them is Deledio can provide outside run and elite kicking either at half back or going inside 50. That's vital. 

Most teams, including Melbourne, already have a couple of players who can do what Lewis does, especially if he's slowing down. Adding one more of those wouldn't hurt but it won't change results against the best sides. Deledio has the ability to elevate a good side in to a very good one.

Draft picks are a gamble, but the more of them you have the more likely you are to win. We shouldn't be giving up anything more than a 3rd round pick OR a player with similar low value.

I'd amend that statement though: "Deledio had the ability to elevate a good side in to a very good one in the regular season, two years ago"  Lewis adds premiership and finals experience that Deledio does not, which might be why we are very excitedly going after him.

Treloar wrote an article about how to play on the best mids at the end of August. I also thought that needed to be amended like so: "how to play on the best mids, in the regular season" ie he doesn't know how to do it in September, yet.

Mitchell won the best and fairest was captain and went to Eagles for essentially pick 88.

Lewis was second in the best and fairest and is no better player than Mitchell.

So anything less than 80 for Lewis would be a complete scam.

No dogs player had been in a grand final before they won it and before this year most of their players had only been in 1 final the year before. 

You have to win your own ball and use it under pressure in finals but otherwise it's not some special new game and making finals is about hard work and skill as well. Lewis doesn't have any kind of amazing insight that heaps of other senior players in the league don't.

Dees to grab pick 21 off the Lions but offering pick 30 and either Dunn, Dawes, JKH or even  Spencer (can grab 1-2 rucks in the draft).

Lewis for pick 21 is fair ... a steal but the Hawks need to deal now.

Hibberd for MFC 2nd round pick in 2017 draft.  

Gets us Lewis, Hibberd and keeps 2017 1st rounder.

Plenty of players from Sydney and Geelong have a heap of experience. Can add Dogs players as well now. Pendles at Collingwood. Nick Riewoldt, he knows what it takes. Daniel Cross didn't get the ultimate success but I'm sure he knows what was required and did his absolute best. 

The coach / coaches, the captain and then the rest of the leaders have to drive the culture. And I see value in adding Lewis as a leader. Just not at the expense of getting more talent. 

Simon Goodwin played in back to back flags at Adelaide. Brendan McCartney played a big role in Geelong's dominance. Matty Egan was robbed of that chance due to injury but was still around the club. We have interest in Corey Enright as a coach.
