They're talking right now, dude. Slap your pessimism in the face and believe!

Jake Nial seems to have his nose in a lot of trade stuff from what I have seen.

He must have pretty good sources IMO.

Wouldn't it be a matter of dusting off yesterdays deal?

Or, are Melbourne trying to push a 4th round pick now Lewis wants out?

Posted

Would push for our 4th rounder in a trade, especially after they gave up Mitchell for pick 88.

We still need to draft 3 kids this year and I'd like 2 of those 3 picks to be our second & third rounders.

Lol 4th round pick? Bs.

3rd easily and them some if we have to.

2 year contract, option to extend based on performance.

I will say though, with Lewis and Viney in the same team, opposition and the MRP better watch out!

I am too.  He's as slow as a wet week.

However our list is young, emerging but immature.  Lewis' leadership outweighs his decline in skills, speed or fitness in this instance.

I'd prefer recruiting his type in a year's time, when we might really be threatening, but who's to say we are guaranteed such success ?  The Geelong and Carlton games prove the list still needs some direction.

Yes that's got to be his offering, on-field coach to direct position and structure, and it seems to be something we sorely lack.  For all Nathan's and Bernie's good attributes I don't think that's there.  At Hawthorn this seems to have been Hodge and Mitchell domain but maybe Lewis too - or he learned something in the process.  I'm definitely up for that if the cost is manageable.

HAWKS WON'T LET LEWIS LEAVE

Hawthorn list manager Graham Wright says he doesn't believe Jordan Lewis now wants to seek a trade to Melbourne.

Speaking to the media at the Ricoh Centre, he again described the midfielder as a "contracted and required player".

Wright said Lewis was never put on the trade table by Hawthorn and if he decided he wanted to leave the Hawks, the club would not let him.

"As of yesterday afternoon we decided we didn't want Jordan to go anywhere ... we felt he was a required player," Wright said.

"We're not in any discussions with Melbourne."

Wright said Lewis did not want to go to Melbourne as far as he knew.

Asked if Lewis's manager Liam Pickering was still holding discussions with the Demons, Wright said you would have to ask Pickering himself.

Hasn't Pickering got a track record of getting his players to the team they want?

He was not up for trade, but they only decided he wasn't up for trade yesterday afternoon when they found out Mitchell was out the door, suggesting they were open to the idea before that.

it sounds like he's in a pretty tight spot, generally if a player wants to go it happens, they won't keep a player who does not want to be there.

saying Mitchells move wasn't motivated by the Salary cap is a joke, no doubt he could have played at the Hawks this year and gone to the eagles next year as a coach and not lost the one club player tag, it was clearly a salary cap decision.

Yuck! Imagine hearing that after being told in your end of season review that you were on the table for trade.

Starting to see why Lewis has been so aggrieved over the whole situation. Would tell them to shove it after hearing a comment like that.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
