Cotchin is Richmond's first Brownlow medallist since 1971 and as luck would have it Richmond supporters didn't have the pleasure of watching him win it on the night.

It's a bit like finally not finishing ninth only to get beaten by the team that did finish ninth.

Jobe, the convicted drug cheat, who earned the endorsements and extra salary as a result of cheating his way to a brownlow.

i wonder how d'landers would feel if cotchin was nate jones?

Chunk had a good year that year, but given the shocker the Dees had, even the AFL would drug test the umpires in that case ... :)

I would not put it past the AFL to have promised Jobe the 2017 Charlie as a reward for handing it back. Gil the deal maker can not be stopped!

It's amazing how many supporters still believe Jobe has done a brave and noble thing by handing the brownlow back, and those supporters are saying Jobe has more integrity than Cotchin or Mitchell.

I still feel strongly if he was doing this by choice and looking to honor what the award stands for and all that he claimed he would have done this the day the appeal failed, not months later when talk is getting around that he's going to lose it anyway, it's pretty obvious in my opinion that the AFL have tipped him off and given him the opportunity to look good.

He shows us exactly the type of person he is. Appalling behaviour and shows a complete lack of integrity or self awareness.

Gil made me sick talking about how honourable and difficult it was for Watson!

What a joke of a human being Gil is.Just so typical. A person of proper integrity would have gone in hard and used it as an opportunity to reinforce a zero tolerance to drug use

Lost opportunity Gil make you look like the pissant you are!Its hard to agree with anything this AFL do.

Add ashley browne to the conga line of afl suckholes.

The bubble is large, and full of slime.

Bah.

The fact that this is on the AFL website is telling. They're positioning for a break.

The biggest argument 'for' ASADA in that article is that it gets the AFL funding from the government.

The AFL isn't some super special snowflake sporting organisation. It doesn't need different rules.

What a [censored] joke article.

Indeed.

It's quite alright to BE stupid and corrupt, but to appear so is the cardinal sin AFL house.

Gill had the chance yesterday to make a strong chance against Drug Cheats. Instead he called Jobe a Hero for what he had been through.

Weak as [censored] Gill...

the AFL would love to break away from the WADA/ASADA code

Yes Sir WYL. They are just like ever other large Sporting organisation.

Government pressure keeps them involved  and an excellent example of why there is an ever increasing need for ASADA and WADA.

Haven't seen it referenced much, but how much of this massive $10m debt can be sheeted home to the coach who in his wisdom decided not to conciliate and thereby cut the Dons losses.

Yep, clearly sanctioned by the afl. They want things their own way, and are softening up

The government must stay strong, and pull the pin on this.

Simply disgusting.

Have said it before and will stand by it, If the AFL leave the WADA code then I leave the game. Simple as that.

A quote from the pile of puss article. " With no pending cases hanging over their heads, that makes now the time for the respective bodies to get together and look at all aspects of the code and in particular, whether it applies to team sport."

Really, so no Olympic sports are team sports then, not the hockey, the water polo, the soccer, the handball, the volleyball, etc etc etc. The AFL really are very very stupid, problem is so is much of the population who will not question the comments of the AFL and just go along with them without a critical thought in their head.

Here is another one " There are those within football who would like to see the AFL totally disassociate itself from the entire WADA code. They say the willingness of the game and the players to embrace their voluntary illicit drugs policy is an indicator that they would just as rigidly self-police performance-enhancing drug use as well."

Do they really think they strongly police their own illicit drug policy? hahahahahahahahahahahaha

At  least the Guardian is more rational.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/nov/16/resigned-acceptance-over-brownlow-medal-masks-afls-policy-failings

Quote

The AFL’s tactics around the Whitfield issue bring to mind the findings from researchers at Northwestern University that rhesus monkeys would starve themselves rather than pull a chain that administers an electric shock to a companion. Unfortunately at the AFL, it appears that the rhesus monkeys have left the basement and taken up corner offices.

In some ways i hope the dumb bast###s leave ASADA & WADA and then "the gear" permeates down through the AFL grades, gets to the kids areas, and the whole thing blows up in their faces. Still no TWSNBN parents awake at the moment.

Then they can string these blokes up for pulling the plug on a system that's desperately trying to keep order. There should never ever  be any continued immunity for those responsible, and for the amount of power these troglodytes have in this "OUR" code.

Just saw that Jobe has got to keep his All Australian status from 2012. Why am I not surprised the AFl think he cheated enough to get banned, enough to lose the Brownlow, yet no quite enough to lose the AA selection. It makes no sense, he either cheated that year with PED's or he didn't.

At least now we know the deal done to get him to give it up!

Must go and see the shrink now, I clearly need it as I am expecting sense from the AFL!

Surely if he isn't able to win the brownlow that's the league admitting he cheated, and making his entire season a write off and all achievements like the Brownlow and AA void, can't be shades of grey here, either he did the wrong thing and loses it all, or WADA have no idea and he keeps it all, playing games like this just makes the league look silly.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
