I know Dane Swan has talked about some of his exploits involving undesirable activities during his playing years. If he admitted to taking banned substances, even if recreational, during the year he won his Brownlow, would he be putting that award at risk? I suspect this is going to be the sort of concern the AFL Commission will have when deciding on Jobe's award. In other words, it's not just the decision (which I still think is clear) but the language they use when they announce the decision to ensure they have a clear path for future problems which might arise involving past misdemeanours.

If he admitted to taking peds during his brownlow year then there would be a problem

I don't think admitting to "recreational" only drugs in his brownlow year would be

Jobe knew nothing about taking PED's, they were administered against his wishes without his knowledge, he is the innocent victim in all this. Still can't keep the medal Jobe, you have been found guilty of drug cheating. Wake up AFL make a decision.

Animals without backbones are called invertebrates. They range from well known animals such as jellyfish, slugs, snails, mussels, octopuses, crabs, shrimps, spiders, butterflies and beetles to much less well known animals such as flatworms, tapeworms, siphunculids, ticks and AFL CEO's.

You cant take something against your wishes AND without knowledge.  To be against wishes IS to have knowledge

Beeb, I had even applied the italic tongue in cheek code!

But you can be given something against your wishes and without your knowledge.

Do not give me anything illegal or dangerous. Then they administer something illegal or dangerous without telling you that it is illegal or dangerous, just vitamins Jobe.

Edit:- Still guilty by the way. No Brownlow Gil.

Glacial in comparison to the way it came out immediately on the day the CAS judgement was made in January and announced its contingency plan to top up the Essendon list with players and confirm that in the event that their weakened team finished last, it would still have first pick in the draft notwithstanding the CAS findings.

Exactly.

What is so frustrating is that now continues to be a story when it should have been dead and buried.

Thw afl should have made clear when wada found tbem guilry that should all legal appeals fail he will have to lose the medal. The angst would be done and dusted. instead we have to put up with dross from efc apologists like slobbo

Yes, it's going to be a real battle of the Media drivel to take up the mantle for a "worthy" cause or like our ABC welcome them back with open arms.

Meanwhile back at Cronulla, Billy Bonkers retires, hands in the GF Medal and goes to RE tie up land for a holiday.

As a sideline to this whole controversy, it seems that Stephen Dank's defamation cases against the Nine Network have gone down the toilet* because the man failed to turn up to court/comply with orders - Case dismissed

Dank was ordered to pay Nine's costs of and incidental to each of the proceedings and I wish them the best of luck with that.

* most likely the same toilet down which Essendon's drug records were flushed around four and a half years ago.

Titus's take on it all   ( well the Charlie )

love this bit

""On the one hand, ASADA, WADA, the Court of Arbitration for Sport and the Swiss Federal Tribunal all say Jobe took a performance enhancing substance.

Yet, he’s apparently a really good bloke, makes a mean coffee and a lot of people feel he didn’t take anything illegal.

You can see why this is so difficult for the AFL Commission. Those things cancel each other out.""

Could Redleg do one of his famous countdowns as to the number of days to go before Jobe loses his Charlie?

Watch how he will be treated as some kind of hero now.  Will be sickening.

He probably thinks this is the honourable thing to do, and he will be lauded for it.

A bit too late Jobe!

Correct me if I'm wrong... but is it now all over..?

I guess "officially" it now is.  Unofficially, I'll be still livid come draft night when the cheats read out the first player for the night.

I just hope to Christ that we don't lose to them next year.

Is this the first time the club has accepted responsibility and apologised?

"The club takes responsibility for placing Jobe in this position and unreservedly apologises to him and his family."   Lindsay Tanner

No apology to the AFL & football public.

"Jobe Watson has decided to hand back hs brownlow medal". Like he is some kind of hero.

Yet again the spineless administrators of our great game squib on a decision. Its not Jobes to give back and it has gone on way too long.

Not too often I feel sorry for Mitchell and Cotchin but they rightfully deserve their moment in the sun for winning the medal. As well as the financial rewards that go with it.

Would like to see them sue for lost earnings over the period.

lol, so basically:

- Award is for best and fairest
- Some people think the drugs means I wasn't fair
- I TOTALLY AM FAIR THOUGH, LOOK HOW FAIR I AM I'M HANDING BACK THE MEDAL

It's like his statement is worded so that people will think the action of handing the medal back in of itself qualifies him to earn it.

Still, glad he did it though, as he should have done.

We can finally move on.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
