I have a feeling I know what the general response to this will be but with Choco being one of the coaches caught up in the Richmond cull would he be potentially someone we could have at the club as an assistant.

My thoughts on him (based purely on speculation and opinion) is that I believe he can be a bit out there at times, and potentially quite a dominant figure. I do wonder how he would go as an assistant to Goodwin and whether their styles would mesh.

The positive side to him is that Dustin Martin has spoken quite highly of him as a mentor of his so perhaps he could be positive influence on our young midfield.

Just putting it out there for discussion!

Would prefer Sanderson as he has had a successful working relationship with McCartney in the past....

I think the only position you'd want him in is head of development and we already have a pretty handy coach filling that role :)

I think he'd be a pretty good choice to head coach the Lions

If Roos was starting his tenure now, then yes, I would take him for 2 years to develop young footballers new to tne AFL. Outside that 2 year specific tenure and role his long term influence breaks things down rather than builds them up.

A big NO from me.

absolutely not.

fosters an us / them mentality between players and everyone else at the football club.

he'd destroy everything roos worked so hard to set up.

This could work with a more experienced side, which I think was why he was so successful at Port. It was a "you're either with me or against me" approach and players had the experience to know that they had to go with the coach. Not as easy with the youngest team in the league.

I'd say no, simply because I don't think he's ideal with a young team.

Choco was "development coach" at Richmond. How did that work out?

Wouldn't touch him with a barge pole.

This is the bloke who as coach of Port called a Press Conference to announce the new coach of MFC, Bailey. One of the lowest dog acts I've seen in VFL/AFL history.

He is also the bloke who instead of celebrating a Premiership win, runs down the steps straight after the win having a dig at the Club's biggest sponsor motioning a choking action with his tie around his neck. First thing he thinks of after a win is not the team or the great achievement but having a vindictive personal dig.

Would be an absolute shocker for the team's culture.

Hard to look good as a development coach if your club trades all your first rounders for blokes like Yarren and has basically no young talent coming through the ranks.

Too strong a personality to play second fiddle, I think.

To put it diplomatically.

Neil Balme?

This would be great, especially in a mentoring role to Goody, but he will probably stay with the pies

Listening to SEN this morning and while he did not actually say much,  I got the impression he was not happy with the filth shifting him sideways for Gubby Allen.  I think he might be on the market.

With Dustin Martin as an All Australian

How'd the other 41 players go?

Balmey is still sore from being sacked as coach and doesn't even like to talk about MFC. Can't imagine him coming back in any capacity whatsoever.

That's almost KB like bitterness then. 20 years later, completely different staff and he still is angry. Hell, even Diamond Joe went bankrupt!

I would prefer Sando myself. Choco is too big and divisive a personality to mentor a coach trying to find his feet. Strangely enough, if his approach were to work and this were a discussion about being a head coach, I wouldn't be against talking to him but not in this role.

Added an extra caveat.
