I reckon the Lions would pay part of his salary too.

They don't want him as Captain and he will probably coast if he stays there. They know it.

Lions may need to pay part of his salary if they part ways as they have to pay 95%. May also have to pay part of Hanleys.

He won't be captain next year. Dayne will be.

Better to give it to Zorko - at least he can get on the park on a consistent basis.

Rocky is a gun. Way too much negativity about him atm. In Supercoach he is a star and that's a resonable guide for a mid. I'm completly sold.

We need a couple of star types this year to really sure up our young list and be finals bound next year and even better through the years.

I have no information whatsoever other than I heard the commentators on SEN's drive home programme saying that Rockliff was something of an enigma at Brisbane and they might consider letting him go elsewhere in the quest to play in finals etc. and I'm not sure that we have much to offer the Lions in terms of players and we certainly don't have draft picks ATM but I'm just throwing it out there.

A matter of days before he was picked up by the Lions in the 2009 Pre Season Draft, I was watching him at Melbourne's pre season training where he was an invitee. Regular Demonland poster Redleg was there too and we both thought he would make a good selection either in the PSD or the rookie draft where we had pick 1 in both. History tells us that at the same time, the Demon  recruiters were looking at an exciting indigenous forward - Liam Jurrah - who was starring in the NTFL. They went to Darwin, saw him, liked him and drafted him as #1 in the 2009 PSD.

We still had a chance to get Tom Rockliff with our first pick in the Rookie Draft. There were only six live picks in the PSD that year and Richmond was always going to take Ben Cousins with pick 6 so Melbourne missed on getting Rockliff by one pick. We took Jordie McKenzie with our Rookie Pick 1 and he turned out a handy player for a while but Rockliff has gone on to bigger and better things - club captaincy at the Lions, two B & F's and an All-Australian.

Still, there's talk of strains in the relationship. Perhaps he might want to come home to Victoria?

As I said, we don't have too many bargaining chips and the Lions might stand firm if he wanted to go but at 26 years of age, he might well fill a bit of a void at the club and give us some additional leadership qualities.

Well, that's my trade outsider for the moment.

Sounds like a Clarkson 'renovator'.   Maybe to replace Mitchell in coming years.

My mall (admittedly second hand from extremely reliable source) is that the MFC wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole. Not going to happen. Even if it was a possibility we have no currency.

Just the Devils advocate position here..

I ponder...If, by chance , there were any real legs to this, then I would be supposing its driven  by Rockliff, by the Club ( lions ) or Rockliff and Lions as a form of clean slate approach to next year ( for both )

If that were the case, we might not need the same currency as we would had we instigated the idea.

Melbounre were , remember, very interested in Rockliff.  Maybe hes just a bad fit for them and a better fit for us.

Who knows...a week to go and it is FOOTY after all...a strange world of colliding ideas.

Not adverse at all to him donning red and blue.

and we wait....and see  ....popcorn....doritos  ??

Melbourne mint their own currency , didn't you know....  Remember 2015...mfc did a Dynamo and picks materialised when none were thought t exist.

This year will be harder to be inventively clever no doubt but ...........

I think Rockliffs relationship with his coach tainted his time at the Lions and often there is no way back from that. Leppa  had a bit of Neeld about him from what I hear.

Hopefully not, alot of rumours about his behaviour on BigFooty

Such as?

has to be more to it than a couple of poor tweets for the whole football community to shun a player of his ability that is up for grabs

Then we should put it in writing to the AFL that if we trade for Rockliff and some unknown issue crops up that prevents him from playing - then we can seek further compo or something.. Or, perhaps we know the issue and are getting Rockliff for under the odds.

I wonder at times about all the scuttlebutt.  Would Rocky be that bad that he's captain ?

just for curiosity's sake I looked at his track record as far as b & f goes

2011  WINS

2012 6th

2013 4th

2014 WINS

2015   eq 12  ( funny ol year for Tom )

2016 back to 5th

Is it any co incidence that 2015 was his 'Rockiest' year to date ?  Is it not interesting that nearly/most all the "goss " seems to emanate from this season ?

Im starting to wonder whether hes just a square peg up there these days.

If the MFC want him...Im fine by that....he can play ( well )

That won't happen.  Trades are a case of 'buyer beware'.  Receiving clubs must do their own due diligence.

Anyway, there are ways of reducing risk:  I would expect mfc to load up his contract with 'good behaviour' (on and off field) clauses with corresponding sanctions/rewards.

We aren't run by dills anymore!

I don't think we've gone near him either and if that's the case I hope GD is banned for a good long time.  His rumour is not from a "friend" it's from David Noble, Operations manager of Brisbane.  He will have nowhere to hide if Rockliff doesn't land and he will be shown to be a troll of the highest order.

i agree, the deal for Rockliff is little more than a farfetched rumor in my opinion. Regardless of media talk of his indiscretions and poor behavior towards his previous coaches. I still dont think Brisbane will want to lose two of their best players with the imminent departure of Hanley to Gold Coast in the same trade period. It would be devastating for them next year, and would perhaps exacerbate some of the issues they have with young players wanting to move back home.

You're jumping the gun, just relax. Let this play out. There could be something to it, there might not be. But jumping down the guys throat before anything has occurred isn't going to help anyone.

No credible journalists have said anything about Rockliff. This is al driven by a demonlanders far fetched scenario being stated as fact. Will be very surprised if this gets any more momentum.
