BOX HILL HAWKS v CASEY SCORPIONS

The drive out to City Oval in Box Hill from my place is far more pleasant and a couple of hours shorter than the one out to Sleepy Hollow.

Casey disappointed last week so they have to make amends this Saturday.

Has Chris Dawes played his last game for the club?

Perhaps we are wrapping him in cotton wool before he goes to Richmond?

Newton in devel league. wow

Coming back from injury so assume he'll play 50% game time to get back into it for week 1 of the finals next week. I thought it was a message but then remembered a) Imjured last week and b) he's been great at Casey all year. Hope he finishes the year with a premiership.

Ah ok, makes sense, wasn't aware of that. Cheers

What's Newton doing playing back in the Development League? (Also I like the Scorp's centre line!)

Missed these last 2 games, presumably injured, or been told to go away and start getting his body right for next season. Or, just been told to go away.

He didn't look a very happy man at training yesterday. Wouldn't be surprised if he has been told in the last day or so.

agree ... 41 available. Mitch King and Lamumba unavailable.

Dawes rested due to contract negotiations.

MFC: we have paid $500,000 for 4 years (official) for $2million total for 50 games. $40,000 per game. Its changing to $200,000 plus performance incentives. We need to keep Hogan. Take it or leave it.

Hi KC, love the work you do reporting on the boys at Casey each week. Do you (or anyone else) have a list of all the MFC players who will qualify for finals? I suspect that's behind some for the changes this week, but interested in the status of Weid, Oliver, Pedo, M Jones, Salem, BenKen etc.

Why does Chris Dawes not have to front up for Casey like every other player on our list? For the sort of money he is on, he should be washing the coaches' cars if they ask him to, let alone playing in the reserves occasionally. The sooner he disappears, the better.

Because you want him 100% fit the either start pre-season or to pass medicals when you trade him

and to avoid a large injury payment on delisting if he sustained a serious injury

Dawes has an issue with an achilles.  Tried to train yesterday and could barely run.

On another note, and KC please correct me if I'm wrong but it looks to me as though we'll have up to 20 players available for VFL finals that meet the criteria being the following:

Christian Salem, Jack Trengove, Clayton Oliver, Lynden Dunn, Ben Newton, Colin Garland, Cam Pedersen, Viv Michie, JKH, Sam Weideman, Liam Hulett, ANB, Jack Grimes, Jake Spencer, Ben Kennedy, Mitch White, Joel Smith, Matt Jones, Dean Terlich, Max King

Could have a 22 looking like: Bold = Casey player

FB: Garland, Dunn, White

HB: J. Smith, Hutchins, Michie

C: M. Jones, ANB, Grimes

HF: Terlich, Hulett, Newton

FF: Pedersen, Weideman, JKH

FOLL: Spencer, Oliver, Kennedy

INT: Keilty, Munro, Salem, Trengove

With Max King in the D - League & someone like Tim Smith a Casey main stay unable to crack the 22.  VFL premiership should be the goal if these players are in fact going to be available.

You'd think Dylan Collis, Tim Smith  and Angus Scott would be in this side, even if it is at the expense of a fringe demon, as they've been big contributors for Casey this year, as has Ed Morris.

WJ posted the criteria for finals qualification last week. On my calculations, the following players qualify:-

Lynden Dunn, Colin Garland, Jack Grimes, Liam Hulett, Ben Kennedy, Jay Kennedy-Harris, Matt Jones, Max King, Viv Michie, Alex Neal-Bullen, Ben Newton, Cameron Pedersen, Joel Smith, Jake Spencer, Dean Terlich, Jack Trengove, Sam Weideman, Mitchell White

It's a good squad to choose from. JKH has had injuries but that would be about it. No reason to send any off for surgery and most playing to prove something for 2017. A big finals series by any of them will have a major implication for 2017.

Thanks KC. I thought Salem had played the 6 required VFL games and as of this weekend so will Oliver?

Footy is ruthless. Whatever happens im sure he'll be proud to say that he achieved great success and gave every last drop he had.

(b)          Subject to  Rule 20(c) below, a Player who has played in an AFL Home and Away Match after 1 July in the relevant season will be ineligible to play in VFL Senior Grade or Development League Finals Series Matches unless that Player has played in a combined total of at least six (6) Senior Grade or Development League Home and Away Matches in the same season.

(g)          Despite any other provision in Rule 20, where a Club does not field a Development League Team, an AFL listed Player must:

(i)           qualify under Regulation 20(b); and

(ii)          have played no more than 12 AFL Home and Away Matches,

So after reading this, we are fielding a D-League team therefore it doesnt matter if they've played more than 12 AFL matches?

Salem has played 5 matches (nope); Oliver is about to play his 6th (13 AFL games); Kennedy 6 (15 AFL games). Hoping that we do get Kennedy and Oliver for the finals. What a midfield!

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.
