Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Next move.  Dunn, Pick 57 & 59 (340 points) to the filth for Picks 47 (316) & 83 (0) .  Puts them in a better position re father/sons.

The trade next years future 2nd Round Pick to Saints for 36.

Collingwood will not give up 47 +/- high picks for Dunn...they need all the draft points they can get for their father/sons

The following comments don't relate to your posts stuie its for the people who put up all sorts of hypothetical pick trades.

NOTE: draft points are a sliding scale and read this: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-10-19/indicative-2016-afl-draft-order

ie #28 = 703 points

# 47 = 316 points

# 57 = 182 points

# 59 = 158 points

And, hopefully for the last time, a club (with some exceptions) cannot have more draft picks than vacant list spots!!

Edit: we can use picks 102 and 120 to upgrade Wagner/Smith.

Geez that's a massive slide in points from 47 to 57, didn't realize the difference was so great.

As for our list, as it stands we have 1 free spot right? So if we traded Dunn and delisted Dawes that makes 3 spots. Then using 1 draft pick and upgrading two rookies fills those 3 spots. Correct? And we don't have to use all our picks, just 3.

I know we can use our last picks to upgrade, but why would we bother using pick 84 in the draft?

Barrett got this wrong just as he did the Lewis deal of picks.

The bloke really has NFI and just drivels shyte for a living.

The list managers are all playing mind games, so the only ones who know whats going on is the list mangers individually, in their own thoughts.  The media are just picking up the spilt scraps..

Purple is just one of the seagulls.

Why the rush to upgrade the rookies?

Wagner & Smith have shown 'promise'. By upgrading them we can have a go at some more 'speculative potentials' that Jason Taylor and co have had such a reasonable success with so far.

Been thinking about this. I wondering if with the bottom end of the draft being so open where you could end up with someone in your top 30 at pick 60 if a 10 pick upgrade is worth it? Maybe having 2 stabs in the 50's is better than 1 stab in the 40's?

I'd keep our next year picks because this is not a great draft year. We need to take 3 picks this year - I dont mind putting Smith on the senior list (cheap). and go with the 57 and 59 (or make a call on the day to upgrade?).

Well theres no way any draft picked kids are going to get gifted a game.

They know right from the start they are going to have to work their butts off to get a look in.

Finally this is how a good side should look and we get a good look at the kids to see if they are any good and if one is it is viewed as a bonus, rather than the spate of "saviors" of the last ten years.

All good

And the 'kids' can learn & develop in the 2's, where they have less limelight & pressure.

He wouldn't have. Hal Hunter may have been the only one who would.

I think thats why they did the deal, & the AFL wouldn't like it dragged into the courts once again, just as the drugs saga is being put to bed.

it also allows us to focus on further improvements, if opportunity knocks.

I'm very happy to have M Hibberd.

... now, i'm also disapponted we don't have any real national draft action to look forward to.

We currently have 1 spare spot on our list.  If Dunn leaves that leaves us with one other list change that we must make to go to the draft.  Presumably this would be Dawes.

If that's the case, we have 3 "live" picks, currently 57, 59 and 84.  If we upgrade both Wagner and Smith, it means we are using Pick 59 on one of them.  I personally would rather give Taylor a crack at a "speculative potential" player at 59, rather than looking for something in the rookie draft.

But as you've already said "billy" there's still a day to go, and if Dunn leaves you would think those picks will look very different, changes the whole thing doesn't it?

All those interpretations are correct.

Re pick 84 -  Newton's future is also in the balance and would can give us another list spot to fill - then we can use #84 at the draft...

Another general comment: I am keeping the 2016 Contract thread upto date with all changes re demons.  People should look at it before positing scenarios.

Ah yep, surely with Lewis "popping up" it means Newton's fate is surely sealed? I'm not a massive fan, but the FD seem to love Wagner and he seems a lock to be upgraded, so with Dunn, Dawes and Newton all a decent chance to go and then Wags upgraded, it leaves us with 3 spots yeah?

Still feel Mahoney has some kind of pick trade up his sleeve...

I think Newton's fate was sealed before we got Lewis but don't want to update info until these things are said by the club (Ditto Dawes, rookies etc)

I was simply answering your question about pick 84 and the number of vacancies we may have.

So you'd sacrifice potentially 10 draft spots just to draft this year rather than next? Doesn't make sense to me.

So your obviously assuming that we're destined for a bottom 4-6 finish then if you think our 2nd Round Pick next year will be around 26 after free agent compensation etc?

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
