With reports suggesting that James Stewart has nominated Essendon as his club of choice ahead of Carlton, maybe we could get involved seeing as Essendon are playing hardball re: 2nd Round Picks.

For example we send Garland (Patfull replacement) to GWS & Picks 29 & 57 to Essendon

GWS send Stewart to Essendon & Pick 37 back to us.

Essendon send Hibberd to us & Pick 41 to GWS

So for us it's Garland, Picks 29 & 57 out. Hibberd & Pick 37 in.

Essendon it's Hibberd & Pick 41 out.  Stewart & Picks 29 & 57 in.

GWS it's Stewart & 37 out.  Garland & Pick 41 in.

I like the way you think but why exactly are we giving Essendon our pick 57 when they would do the deal for pick 29 alone?

Essendon are smart. I love Dodoro. He doesn't bend until he has to. We should wait it out.

Otherwise, GC still have picks 24 and 26 with 2 first round picks and 2 more to come for Prestia and O'Meara. If we give them our future 2nd rounder and Ess (or Melb) pay the difference with some 4th round picks or 3rd round upgrades then both clubs get what they want.

Dear Essendon,

You still don't know what you injected Michael Hibberd with, stop being a bunch of pricks.

Yours sincerely,

Yes they do, the players got banned for it, think the deal will be done, think the Lewis deal took over, reckon next years 2nd round unless of course there is one of the mega deals as being posted

Essendon are known to be horrible to deal with in trade week which is why i suspect noone has had a crack at pick 1, they overvalue everything.

they need to understand they did the wrong thing by Hibbo and in part caused him to miss 12 months of his career, they owe it to him to not be tools about this, a future second round pick for him given he's missed 12 months is extremely fair.

Not to mention the 12 months we lost on Melksham for what was generally regarded as an overs premium at the time it was concluded.  Looks like turning in to a who blinks  first exercise.  Is there any possibility we have a quality alternative use in this year's trade period for 29 so that we can present Dodo head with a take it or leave it?  Or are we determined to go to the draft with a 2nd round pick in hand?

It'll happen, once a player and his manager publicly commit to another club, it always gets done.

That was only one of the things they were injected with. Dank had all sorts of stuff going on including horse drugs, no one knows what went where and which players had what!

Good point. We could probably keep 57 or send it to GWS so they get something else to make it more appealing from their end.

Essendon; OUT - Hibberd & 41. IN - Stewart & 29.

GWS; OUT - Stewart & 37. IN - Garland, 41 & 57.

Melbourne; OUT - Garland, 29 & 57. IN - Hibberd & 37.

Use 37 & 68 at the draft.

I wonder if there's a point where Hibberd's manager says to Essendon. Come on do the deal or we'll go to the grievances tribunal tomorrow and you'll get nothing. Time would be getting tight and he'd end up in the draft and we'd have to get him to do a very high one year contract that no one else would touch ( a la Luke Ball) and then do a two year extension for very little to average it out.

I doubt 37 will be good enough for the players we are obviously looking at in the draft.

Why waste any more time dealing with these pr1cks? There is zero interest in Hibberd from any other club, including Essendon.

We have offered a deal that is probably over the odds given Hibberd's age, his 2016 suspension, and his playing history.

After caving in to Essendon with Melksham last year, I'll be bitterly disappointed if we do the same thing with Hibberd this year.

Probably just me, but I have this automatic reaction against any trade involving Essendon that doesn't result in them being completely done over.

I truly hate Essendon with every fibre of my being.

I just needed to get that off my chest. Cheers.

I agree but seriously..."they need to understand they did the wrong thing.... ". Are you kidding. Not about to happen now.

F*ckin hate the guy but we all wish Dodoro worked for the MFC. What an asset.

You spelled "asshat" wrong...

We are the ones being the assholes here.

He is worth a second round pick this year but for whatever reason we want to do the Harvey Norman 12 months interest free.

I don't mind us being the assholes.

The last product they sold us took a year to fix.

They can wait a year this time.

I do hope there is still some good faithshown between the paties.

For example if we relented and give them 29 this year then they'll give us something else with Hibberd. Eg Pick 41.

If they accept next years Pick then we should throw Pick 57 their way or someone like JKH or Nibbler.

Also, not doing that deal has meant that they haven't been able to do other deals.

In the past we have done the deals quickly, allowing us to look at trade period as a whole. Essendon have sucked at trading because they have only looked at deals in isolation. Given our desire to do fair deals over last period, I'm happy to back our club's judgement on this at the moment.

That's a little overdoing it. We aren't going to give up a young player we like (even just a little) as steak knives. They won't give up pick 41. But I'm sure both clubs are going through their late picks trying to find a swap to make it work. Or at least have that option open to them.

Our pick 68 for their pick 59 if they do it their way. Our pick 68 for their pick 77 if they do it our way.

I dont mind it but it we blink first then it signals to other clubs that we will relent. I look at GC and this year they have teams falling over themselves to offer overs. These teams know that the nutbrain CEO they have aint going to pander to them. GC are now even knocking back ridiculous overs for players, theyll get double the value than if these players left other clubs.

Yep, this is my impression too.

Last year it suited us to get the Melksham deal done quickly to be able to get others done. Dodo probably thought we caved in easily, but we had a larger purpose. Dodo doesn't do "larger purpose".

This year there's no hurry about the Hibberd deal. We can wait until the last minute if we want to. If they're waiting on 29 for something else, too bad. They either won't get it, or (because we probably really do want Hibberd, whatever it takes) they'll get it with no time to complete their other trades.

I'd hate to have Dodoro at MFC.

We knew going in that would be the case.

I don't think Essendon are doing anything wrong here, they want this year's 2nd we want to give them next year's because we already gave away our 1st this year. Both clubs are trying to get the best deal, no one's being difficult it's just the way it is.

We may end up giving them next year's 2nd but with a swap of later picks this year or some other sweetener thrown in.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
