POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 21

Can't complain about a 40 point win in Adelaide.

Port's kicking was the worst I have seen in a long time. Them and Collingwood are carrying too many terrible users of the footy. Especially out of defence.

Did you wear your colours without fear, Clint?!

Mustve been awesome!

I did, quite a lot of red and blue around, no issues at all from the Port Adelaide supporters.

That was the worst game I've seen from Hogan, hopefully it was because his knee is causing him issues.

Don't worry. He has an important role as a decoy. Our most important wins are the ones where others have kicked our goals!

If we pip them for the 8, well my head will explode, otherwise it has to be one of the greatest bed chittings of all time by Norf!

How long have we waited to hear/see these words about our club:  "After stunning Hawthorn the previous week, they were under pressure to at long last show some consistency, and to win again in a hostile environment proves they really deserve respect

Can't be bought, must be earnt.  And we are; more to do but no turning back now!

We are on the verge of ending opposition supporter's pity...to be replaced by their envy!!

I think you'll find it's 59....but substantially narrowed in any event...!

Me too - I logged on to ticketmaster last night to see how much tickets down at Geelong would be - seems we'll be stuck watching that one in pubs or at home, nothing available as far as I can find.

This from the Age will have a few choking on their drinks:

"Dom Tyson, Clayton Oliver Jayden Hunt and Angus Brayshaw also had their quality moments, backed up by a resilient defence led by Oscar McDonald."

I am not sure, but maybe, just maybe, the footy department knows more than Demonland.

Was never wise to write off a 19 year old KPD in just his second season with less than 20 games under his belt.  Kid will be a player and a half.

That is what Taylor thought was possible, when he drafted him.

Watching the game v Brisbane from the stands I didn't think he was ready.  But full credit to the boy and to the coaching staff he has improved every week and is now playing good football.

The defensive structure last night was really solid, helped by Port's poor kicking, but whenever port went inside 50 I didn't feel like they were likely to score.

2 more to go.

Thank you PJ, Roos, Taylor and everyone else who helped. We are an AFL football club again.

The situation is not too different from '87.

We are a young team on the rise in the last half, hoping for wins we can and can't control ,to give us the last available finals spot on %.

There is a core of talent in this team that look more gifted than '87.

We had Newport,Lyon,Rigoni,Lovett ,Lovell,Flower,Stynes,O'Dwyer ,Hughes ,Viney,Stretch ,Johnson and Yeats who were all solid but Lyon seemed like the only real star(and Robbie) who was bandaged up like a rag doll.Stinga was injured from memory.

And in both years, assuming we do the Blues and North do the right thing,it will come down to a game at the Cattery.

Geelong will not want to rest too many against us as the top teams have done previously before finals.Even if they do -bring it on.

I'm not going to make predictions but the list available and fit this time in ,is superior to what took us to a within a kick of a GF appearance in '87 and I think most of the over 40's will agree.

If we do get to a Prelim, say against Hawthorn, and Sam Mitchell runs in to the protected zone, giving away 50m to give Max a shot from 40 in front, kicks it and kisses the 11 and we do go to the GF I will be quite happy.

But I'm not getting ahead of myself.

Must also acknowledge McCartney - I am guessing his impact has been huge.

I agree. (Rigoni and Tingay were a few years off though.)

Love your prediction at the end I think everyone would collectively lose their [censored] if that happened haha

The worst part will be if we do go ahead and win the extra two we'll have to wait til that night to find out our destiny - it's why all games in the last round should be 2pm Saturday (as far as feasible)

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
