The Weed came in for Hoges and should make way IMO.  I was very impressed with Pedo - marking, bringing the ball to ground and general competiveness. We have a better chance of winning with Pedo and Hogan playing

The only other change to consider would be Kennedy for Garlett

I think the club will think about the future and go Hogan for Pederson (Jones said everyone is excited to have weid's and Hogan in same forward line). Not sure if anyone else will get changed.

Gotta feel for Pederson, made a good contribution, but no, he is not ahead of Hogan.

I'm a little worried about Garlett. And Garlett should be worried about Kennedy and Kennedy-Harris!

I would think there might be a change or two out of the group of mids, half-forward and half-backs who between them include a lot of potentially tired kids, a few more players who have have injury interruptions, and so on.

I think selection pretty much comes down to energy levels and bruises this week. There's none 'demanding' to be dropped and several earning a place coming up.

Surely they won't drop Harmesy.

He and Brayshaw walking off the "G" arm in arm singing the song was one of the highlights of the day for me.

Mate, you haven't explained the difference. I'm more than willing to listen and was obviously being a bit cheeky with the Dawes comparison, but I stand by my point of saying just because you do something once it doesn't mean you "have" that quality. Doing it consistently, means you do.

That point alone is technically correct, yes, but I feel it doesnt suit the Harmes case. He makes mistakes that young players make but he does one or 2 things a week that make me think "wow that was good". Maybe once in a month he does something that makes me think "That was really good". At his young and inexperianced age him doing these things show he can be a player and a classy one. His smooth and skilled given another full year or two of development I hope he can begin to do these nice things week in week out. 

Hogan must come back in if fit. I love the look of Weideman as a prospect but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him sent back to the VFL (or rested) for this week and then return against Carlton. Pedersen played a very good second half and Weideman faded out of the game after a great start. Pedersen also offers us much greater flexibility than the other alternatives.

I called for Harmes to be tried down back when he was playing forward, but I now think it is a failed experiment because his ball use isn’t up to scratch. As such, I would look at dropping Harmes for Wagner.

I'm with Stuie on this one. Harmes certainly does not have class at this stage. He did one thing that looked classy but its certainly not a defining characteristic.

By your logic, Tom McDonald has class. I've seen him hit blokes on the chest more times than I've seen Harmes do it.

ANB isn't a slow inside mid either. Roos' mantra of versatility has seen him learning an inside mid role this year, but I believe he will eventually settle in a role as a high HF who can also play as a crumber. I'd go:

IN: ANB, Hogan (if fit)
OUT: Harmes, Pedersen

Pedersen was obviously good, but realistically his role is as depth so if Hogan is right to go then he comes back in.

Love Harmes' effort and intensity, but his decision making and disposal can be horrible at times. Plus, geez what more does ANB have to do to get a game?! (36 touches and a goal yesterday).

The other option possibly could be dropping Harmes and Garlett, bringing in Hogan and ANB (as a forward - see Geelong game 2015) and playing Pedersen in the backline where we might need the extra size against Port.

 

Harmes out??? He was very good on Saturday and his hardness is brilliant to watch.  ANB is a very good VFL player but not there yet at AFL level.  In saying that I think ANB will be a good player for us but needs at least another pre-season under his belt.

I saw him having work on what I thought was a hip at one stage but then looking closely on the replay it looked to me like he had a scratch going up towards the bandage that looked like he was studded. If so I doubt it will be an issue.

I agree on that mate, that's why I likened him to Nathan Jones when he first came in. Bit raw and bull at the gate, but he shows those glimpses and appears to be a hard worker, so no doubt one day he will be a classy player, but at this stage he's a gutsy player with potential to be consistently classy.

Not really, they've been working on his versatility (which is Roos' mantra) so he's been playing as an inside mid to get that part of his game happening. I'm mainly going off his hardness and creativity, combined with his goal haul in the Geelong game last year as a small forward.

Yeah, that's what I would do, I don't expect it to be what happens though. I really like Harmesy, but just after being there and watching the replay a couple of times I realized he was pretty wasteful with the ball, it's a bit all or nothing, so I'd leave him out to make way for ANB to have 2 games as a decent crack.
