Michael Hibberd and Michael Hurley

Just left a really interesting meeting with a mate who is well connected in the Bomber sanctum. I thought that Hurley is a pipe dream and he'll stay but apparently not. There is thought that Hibberd and Hurley who are mates and not training with the others are a package deal. The Dons believe that they are either both staying or both going to the Dees. Right now, they dont know which way they are leaning but are confident that it is a two-club race. The Dons do not want to let them go for free and will be looking for a trade worthy of two All Australians (Hibberd apparently was close in 2013 or 14?). So they are keeping an eye on the McDonald and Hogan contract situation and see if we get anything that they want. Wholeheartedly will screw their boys over if they try and walk.

BomberBlitz are reporting on our thread here. Nothing interesting to report bar the fact they all believe that Hibberd is worth a first rounder but he's not good enough to be offered a 3rd year on his contract.

"Ah the doddering's of Dodoro".  We would have better negotiators on board us than Essendon. I think that Melksham is a bigger influence than some and karma think.

Just looked at the thread. It's a weird feeling seeing your words quoted on Bomberblitz. I wouldn't recommend it.

Many seem resigned to Hibberd leaving. Sounds like he is very tight with Melksham and Goodwin and the ban has hit him hard. Hurley and Hibberd would be amazing but it's harder to see Hurley leaving.

I've seen a few on various forums floating the idea of Hogan for pick 1 + Hibberd. Fortunately there's been a sane person standing by to knock it on the head.

Hibberb being  close to being All Australian means he wasn't, so why try 2 up his value. No way Hogan going 2 Bombers.

Dodoro to Mahony: "Hurley ans Hibberd want to go to you guys, let's settle on a trade"

Mahony to Dodoro: "Great. I was thinking maybe a package of current and future draft picks and maybe players"

Dodoro: "Ok. I think Brayshaw, Gawn, Hogan, Oliver, Vince, Jones, Viney, Salem, Tyson, McDonald, 2017 1st rounder, 2016 2nd round, 2016 3rd and 2017 2nd should be fair.

Mahony to Dodoro: "Thats not fair"

Dodoro to Mahony: Your right, Hurley and Hibberd are very valuable players. Add in Weideman and Jetta and it's a deal!

Mahoney to Dodoro...they can walk mate, we don't have to give you a thing.

See if the AFL will offer you a couple of picks.

I think Essendon's stance will depend on the player. It's much easier to replace a Hibberd than a Hurley

On The Sunday Footy Show there was an interview with the Essendon CEO Xavier Campbell. When questioned regarding whether or not they would allow Jobe Watson to leave (if Jobe decided he wanted to) Campbell was very squeamish. From memory he said he was confident Jobe would want to stay, but wouldn't comment on the process of whether if pushed whether or not they would allow him to leave for free as it is rumoured some players may want to.

Like you said it will most likely depend on the player to a large degree & what stance the player takes.

Just to set some things straight... I will post a realistic comment.

Both Hurley and Hibberd do not want to leave Essendon, however they are asking for 'x' amount of money/years etc and it is up to Essendon to match their demands. So walking away from Essendon Paddy Ryder style will certainly not happen.. if they were to leave, they respect the club enough to go via trades etc (like carlisle did). Many inside and outside the Essendon sanctum are very confident that Hurley will/has  sign/re-commit. Which is disappointing from our perspective if true, because he is the missing piece of our puzzle.

On another note, would anyone be interested in Tayte Pears? We could get him for so cheap due to how little he has done in his career due to injury, but many know he has good football inside of him, he just hasn't had a good run at it. Essendon fans seem to joke about him and aren't particularly worried if he does or doesn't stay at Essendon next year. I mean if we get him for cheap, with a bit of luck and no injuries he could seriously be a good key defender in partnership with TMAC

It's only realistic if you have inside information...it's just an opinion otherwise.

Which is it and at what level?

Agreed. And no interest in Tayte Pears. It's Hurley or I'm happy to back in Frost and the McDonald's for the foreseeable future.

The same bloke said Melksham didn't have pace.

Tayte Pears!? Id rather Tom Gillies and thats saying something..

It would be great if we could get Hibberd & Hurley for nothing.

If we need to trade for them it will be tough going.  Think we'd probably have to trade our 2017 1st Round pick, Salem & then possibly send Neal-Bullen & our 2016 2nd Round pick somewhere also to get deals done.  Maybe Adelaide and involve Crouch?

Potential Trade

Melbourne - OUT: Salem, Neal-Bullen, 2016 2nd Round Pick & 2017 1st Round Pick.  IN: Hurley, Hibberd & 2016 3rd Round Pick

Essendon - OUT: Hurley, Hibberd & 2016 3rd Round Pick.  IN: Salem, Crouch & 2017 1st Round Pick

Adelaide - OUT: Crouch.  IN: Neal-Bullen & 2016 2nd Round Pick

Not revealing any sources, and yes ProDee, Melksham is not fast at all

That is old, old, news dd36...AFL a bit slow on the uptake:wacko:  See the 'Roos on SEN Fri June 10' thread for the same info and more context.

But with the high likelihood of Hurley signing with EFC, and if as some have reported, he and Hibberd go or stay as a package, Hibberd could also be staying at EFC.

We move on.  I'm sure MFC have a backup plan.

Just updating on the 'Michael Hibberd thread'

Sorry if its such a crime..

And thats your opinion whether he stays. No one needs to 'move on' when nothing has been officially set. Right at this moment i see us as a club right in the hunt for his service's.

Lol someone needs to get off the crazy pills!!:P

Hibberd would be a good addition to our backline, it is a curious case with TMac putting contract negotiations on hold. Can't say I'm overly impressed with Irvine how much time and development we've put into him, and to be honest is still very prone to horrendous brain farts (basically gave Essendon their dream start earlier this year).

I might be wrong but I think we treated our first round pick this year didn't we? So we would have to trade a player to get one.

Either way I'm happy to hear we're keeping an eye out to improve our list, particularly our backline.

Would hate to lose Salem

Can we get him micro-chipped in case of such an event?

I was once about to suggest this for Jurrah but did not want to appear insulting to the great man, who i consider a mentor.

I'd take Hibberb, he's been phenominal for the Dons in the past.

Also if he is available I presume we'll be one of the front runners considering he and Melksham are close mates as they're the two I ran into in Europe last year and of course Goodwin.

Edited by ignition.

Hibberd - you must be joking - we have about a million 187 cm half backs atm we don't need any more.  What we need desperately is big solid key defenders that can play on Joe Daniher & Tex Walker.

Who are these flankers?

I can name 1 that I'm confident on. Bernie Vince. And we should have options so we can play him on the wing or in the midfield if required.

Jetta's a back pocket. Lumumba (regardless of everything else) is about to turn 30 and probably close to the end after next year.

I like both Hunt and Wagner, but they could both go either way. And right now they are best 22. Mitch White is our next best and he's the only depth. Melksham presumably comes in to this group next year, but we are still looking at only a couple of young rookie pick ups as our best depth. Chuck in the very speculative Joel Smith I guess at that's it for small/medium defenders at the club. Viv Michie has played at half back this year. If we were stacked with half backs he wouldn't get a game.

With the right training and physical development Frost, Tom and Oscar can physically handle any tall forward in the league. Joe Daniher is 200cm but doesn't have a lot of strength. Walker is strong and athletic but is 194cm. Jon Patton is 200cm, strong as can be but moves like a glacier.

We could do with a better key defender, particularly an experienced one as Dunn and Garland are battling and we apparently went hard for Cale Hooker, but there's only so many out there. If we bolster our backline in other ways it will make it a lot easier for the talls to develop if we head down the draft path. And if they don't come on we can trade in later. If we find players to make us better the spots to fill shrink and players will be more likely to come to us.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
