I think it is reasonable and straight forward.

At first thought (without reading the rule), it seems incredibly unfair to the teams that dont have a womens side.. Its a new recruiting avenue only available to the select few.

So is the father son rule if you get rid of the academies. 

The best way for the academies/FS rule to work is to treat them the same and limit the number you can get to say 3 in every 5 year period. 

My model for it would go something like this.

Each club can get 3 players in 5 years (rolling 5 year period) from either their academy or from Father son. Each of these 3 can be selected outside of the draft, if a club wants more than the 3 they are allowed then they have to bid on them under the current system (but make the price higher).

makes it fair for everyone as long as everyone has access to an academy.

I think they'll need to juggle the rules a bit more to make it work both ways.  The women's league will have fewer games per season, so it's going to be really hard for players to get up to the 100 game mark.  Then there's a penalty attached to being one of the founding players like Daisy Pearce who has been part of Melbourne for years but only has a few official games to her name.  Despite her huge impact on the women's game and her role in getting the league up and running, there is very little chance of her ever reaching that milestone.

It will be years before the mother/son rule comes into affect, and even then will be less prevalent than the F/S due to the number of players. 

The father/daughter rule will be interesting, and I think it was McKay from carlton's daughter who may be the first in a couple of years. 

 I think they are reasonable rules but will be rarely used

I dunno... We've invested the time and energy into building a women's team and competition, I feel the mother/son eligiblity is a fair reward for all the resources we've poured into it.

While other clubs did submit womens team proposals, let's be under no illusions that many clubs were completely uninterested despite overflowing with money (Hawthorn).
