I am a glass half full person.

At 3/4 time it was within our reach - they had to put in a record breaking tackling effort to take it away from us when we were close. Considering their experience, on their homeground, we did ok.  Until the last quarter - that is where our youth and inexperience kicked in.  They are now 2nd on the table - is it really that surprising that the took the game away?

Agree with most of this but the game was well over at 3/4 time.

im at the airport on way home from game and I have to say that was one of the ugliest, boring games of footy I have ever sat thru.

For a moment there in the third it looked like we were going to storm back into it. Very disappointing last quarter.

We roughed it out for 3 qrts with disposal letting us down were just outclassed by a classy Sydney team what can you do? It highlights we are still slim on experienced players

Disposal should not be letting us down by now

it is a fundamental of the game

That is my point

Freo had a bunch of kids in yesterday

we are not the only young side

We had enough entries, but they delivered it better, marked it better, and obviously tackled. Should've played any of Grimes, Harmes, Michie and Garlett instead of OMac and Dawes

And Bernie Vince will come under scrutiny yet again

Sydney 155 tackles, most in a game ever, thats more than 1 per minute.

I don't think our tackling was bad at all. But to be doubled and have a record number of tackles against us, I just didn't notice it. This means we almost had as many disposals and got tackled as we did disposals that we didn't get tackled.

Amazing actually.

It's impossible to be satisfied with a loss in any circumstances, but going into the game I was hoping for a four quarter contest, and probably expecting a small loss (as per the recent Hawthorn game).  Sadly, we did not deliver on that expectation, and let them play like millionaires in an embarrassing last quarter.  We were out bodied and outplayed by a more experienced team for much of the day, but there are absolutely no excuses for the late capitulation. Too many passengers on the day, but some positives from a few of our youngsters, particularly Hunt, Frost and Wagner.

One thing, i really loved Hunts run and carry......

Much needed In today's conditions where yardage/possession are even more crItical. Something we dont have enough of. H may have been handy although he can also be choppy with the ball In hand.

I just want the team to take the next jump. It continues to not do so...

a 9 goal loss in those conditions is horrible

but i am sure many will use the "Kids" excuse again.

No leadership apart from Bernie & even he lost it

We have taken the next jump... When Goodwin takes the  reins next season we will have a very tough team to  coach . Bleedingly obvious the improvement each year and development of game.

As mentioned we were still in it up to our necks at 3qrt time playing a superstar lineup on home turf yet and they had to play 4q of footy to beat us.

Anyone remember 100+ point loss??

I liked Jack's game. To go with his game against the Hawks in the wet, I'd rate that as two of his better performances against two of the best, toughest teams in tougher than usual conditions.

We had the same amount of inside 50's as last week and managed just 11 shots on goal. I think that sums up our game and what is up with Nev that's three poor ones in a row. I expected him to do well in those conditions? Swans have been training in these conditions for weeks!! But that's no excuse, not much to say really disAppointed. The bye couldn't have come at a better time for us- go dees

Conditions suited the Swans perfectly and we went in way to tall, was a good effort from us for three quarters until we decided it was time to go to sleep.

Great to see Frost take off and have that shot on goal and Hunt keep taking the game on. We had very little run and carry from others though, a lot of stopping and second guessing when in attack and it looked like a slog for talls to try and create something in the conditions

Was it raining at the ground? Looked like it was on TV. Not sure if that may have had an impact on the watchability of it.

Arguably only the rain saved us from a similar fate today.

I think we would have done better in drier conditions. We're horrible in the wet.

It could be worse, we could be GWS who are losing to that rabble Essendon..

I know, thank God we smashed the Bombers.

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
