Question regarding rules

Luke Ball seems to be sitting on the fence, need someone a bit more decisive in the role.

I think the Mitchell one is the worst, as the kick is smothered if he goes inboard like they're claiming he needs to.

Vince meant it, as annoying as it was.

Yeah i agree i think Luke is trying not to anger anyone but is clearly under instruction to make it harsh.

Yeah i only saw the vince one live from the other side of the ground so that may have been obvious i think i might rewatch the game tonight.

Yep once you see the replay it's pretty clear the Vince one is legit. Elbow goes right up.

like if they were going to make it this strict then why were we not just make it last touch cut out the confusion? like the one against the GWS bloke is just crap like what was he meant to do as he was getting pushed over? and what about bernie's that went right over a melbourne players head (jetta from memory but i could be wrong)? 

in the hun today the afl's evans is quoted as wanting to make it even more strict. they just love fiddling with the rules.

If they want to make the rule that strict fine, but they can no longer call it "deliberate". Because some of the examples they showed were clearly miss kicks under pressure. Hell the last one were he picked it up and walked it over the line (although i think it shouldnt be) was more deliberate than Mitchell's.

I think they will implement it, for 2 or 3 years, then apologize and remove it. Sub rule style.

The "professional free kick" of 2017 will be kicking it out deliberate rather than kicking it into the corridor and have it turn over there anyway.

A rule interpretation which has had some attention on DL:  When is a handball a throw?

Quote:  "In the search for speed and flexibility, coaches and players have changed the nature of handball to an extent that the line between what's legal and what's not has again become blurred...{and} those responsible for the game's management have acquiesced".

I suspect we would all agree with his conclusion:  'The rule-makers, if they are serious, have two options: they can crack down on illegal handball or change the rules and permit the throw.'

What is frustrating is that the AFL waits until a topic gets a decent amount of public protest before they do anything.  Undoubtedly, if umpires were told to crack down (pay free kicks) on throws another blight on our game would get the flick!
