Pre-match thread: NAB Challenge Game 1 - Port Adelaide v Melbourne

Nathan seemed to be training well today so I don't know why he wouldn't play, especially when Roos stated that we would be fielding our best side.

Our strongest fit side. It wouldnt make sense to risk our captain and arguably one of our most important players, for the nab challenge. The whole idea of the nab challenge is obviously to shake of some rust but also give the young guys a taste

Squad named, Weideman, Hulett miss out

Jones and Vince obvious absent

will be great to Oliver, Wagner.  also Hunt and Frost

3 players to be dropped from the squad by satdy: maybe M Jones, O Mac and ANB?

the team has a real young feel to it. not many over 24, in fact, not that many over 22 yo!

Who will captain in place of Jones?

So who's our midfield leader in that group? Viney? Tyson? Maybe Gawn...

Easily Viney.  He'll go banana's in the middle and set the tone for the rest of the players.

Pretty good side picked, very interested to see how we go against pretty strong opposition.

Agree. Quite like playing against a strong Port side. Their spread against us last year was unbelievable, would be good to see how we have developed over the off season.

Was it last year Viney kicked across the face of goal in the NAB cup straight to an opposition player who goaled straight away?

We've been called 'the young demons side' for the past 50 years.

Hey boys and girls.

I’ve never before set foot in 'lizbeth, but I’m going to risk the pearly-whites and pop over to Playford on Sat for a squiz. I know it’s televised, but anything in particular the people here would like me to keep a close eye on in person?

Keep a close eye on your wallet for a start. Dont talk to strangers. On a football note, let us know how Salem goes and whether his role is solely off half back or he moves about a little.

The only one that springs to mind is someone kicked across goal straight to Ty Vickery.

I remember all the kicks across our face of goal against Freo.

Into 29: Boak, Broadbent, Ebert, Hartlett, R. Gray, Wines, Wingard, Lobbe, Impey, Schulz, Pittard, Hombsch, Westhoff

Some handy inclusions.

Makes the game much more interesting and exciting!

How I'd line them up

FB: Jetta  Dunn Garland

HB: Salem  T McDonald  Wagner

C: Grimes   Viney  Stretch

HF: Brayshaw  Watts  Kent

FF: Frost   Hogan   Garlett

Foll: Gawn  Vanders  Tyson

Int: Oliver Harmes Bugg Kennedy Pedersen Michie Hunt ANB

Emer: O McDonald, M Jones, Terlich

A port supporter on big footy literally just called this game 'the Viney cup.' Facepalm... I hope we won't beat those flogs.

How ridiculous. Obviously they should be playing for the Matthew Bishop trophy.

(and what's with those last 7 words?)

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
