Maybe but we've been saying that for a while and they still haven't made finals. I hope so, I want them to succeed (not at our expense of course) but it's getting to "I'll believe it when I see it" territory.

Having them limited with academy picks if they make finals is another reason to get on them as a "second team" this year though.

Never seen this kid play, so don't know what he's like. But if he's good, I'd hate to lose him, especially to GC.

Let’s say he made the choice to come to the Dees 2 years ago - GC would kick him out of the academy right? So his only option is to keep his options open right to the end. 

Definitely have heard him state that he’s lucky to have access to both clubs as it doubles his access to facilities to train, etc. staying non committal has allowed him to spend two full weeks training with each club every year, on top of his academy training. Should be great for advancing his footy iq as well as his physique.

Same here Roost. To me it's a way of telling us he'll be a Dee without actually saying it. Didn't his old man comment (with a wink) about how good he looked in our guernsey on one of the club's insta posts a little while back too? No mention ever about how good he looked in Gold Coast's monstrous colours that I'm aware of.

I reckon the club already has an idea of what the decision will be, clubs like to have these things in place so they can plan for it moving forward. We were pretty quick to ship out our future first during the trade period.

I see it in 2 factors:

1. Opportunity. 

2. Ease of getting to the club.

For opportunity, there is no obvious ruckman behind the 33 year old Max and several of our key Defenders are near the end.

The Suns have 3 ruckmen behind the younger Witts, with Moyle and 2 others ahead of him at this stage and also younger key Defenders.

For ease of getting to the club,  the Suns have a number of Academy players they want next year and 2 at least at this stage are ahead of Kalani. A finals placing will restrict them to 2 Academy players, whereas with us, he will walk simply in on a matched bid.

Kalani will play for Melbourne. I've no doubt. You don't sign autographs as 34 if you're not on the way.

Historically, it's pretty rare for a major father son not to nominate their father's club. Marc Murphy is the only one I can think of.

He'll get to Melbourne. Bookmark it.

Blakey had two father son choices, then went to swans. his dad happened to be on the payroll as a coach which was purely a coincidence I'm sure. ha ha

The Suns are my second team already and an eighth finish, knocking off the Blues in an elimination final would be a great result all round.

Genuine question why have a second team. I don't have one and never will. I don't understand how people can follow a team like say Fitzroy/South Melbourne then follow them to Brisbane/Sydney. I sometimes have a sofy spot for ex- Melbourne players who've been traded but that's it.

Perhaps I can explain what I mean by second team.

Dees are my only team, but I dislike the Suns winning less than any other team and wouldn’t mind if they make finals and would be totally thrilled for them to lose next year’s GF to us.

I do not have a '2nd team' but i have 'soft spots' for teams from time to time. Usually under dogs but definitely not when they are playing against the Dee's.

Watch how Tassie plays out, when the Devils come into the competition, a good chunk of people will switch allegiances who currently follow other teams in the AFL. Doesn't mean that these people will immediately stop liking the the clubs that they may have followed for all their lives.  Many won't switch, but a good number will, but I dont' think anyone who does switch immediately dislikes their current allegiance. 

 

My second team are the Casey Demons.

I hate every team when they play against us. "2nd team" is a bit of a misnomer as I don't really like any team other than the MFC but removing the emotion from it there are teams that I wouldn't mind seeing some success (Suns, Giants, Saints, Dogs, Roos) especially if it's at the expense of some of the other clubs (Pies, Blues, Bombers, Hawks, Eagles, Swans). And there are teams I enjoy watching as a lover of the sport overall, I have no doubt if any of those teams had some sustained success they would quickly go from loveable losers to hated foes (see Cats, Tigers in recent times, Lions before them).
