I have no emotions I can truly process other than to say I'm thrilled we have a player getting good money who can't even play for us next year because he has been found guilty of doping.

I continue not to understand why we took him on. Hardly seems worth it. Hope I'm proven wrong in the long term (and to think we cleared out Cross from the list!)

he's not getting good money. he won't be paid in 2016.

No it's not. It's a terrible day. Saying it's a great day is like saying dropping a bomb on Hiroshima was great because it brought WWII to its end.

But if CAS formed the view that the players (a) took a banned substance and (b) knowingly did so, then a terrible day is the day we had to have. We cannot allow drugs in any sport. EFC stand condemned for its cavalier attitude both with its lack of care for the rules and more importantly its lack of care for its players.

I think we all agree that the important thing is that cheating is being punished. It is a great day because justice is being served. It is a terrible day, because it is confirmed that some people within the sport have been willing to cheat and risk the welfare of their players. They have tarnished the sport.

Feel sorry for the Aints to be honest.

They jumped through flaming hoops for this mob to give them a guy that now can't even lace up the boots this year.

I haven't had time to read the whole report - does Hird, Read and the board get off Scot free?    What a terrible injustice that would be.

Quote from bomber forum in Big Footy.

They still just don't understand.

the absence of AFL influence perhaps?

the correct level of proof also?

and WADA being a far more professional outfit

Someone quoted Ch 7 as saying the players are not paid for the season.

Interesting stuff in the CAS report.

They (CAS) found that the programme was concealed from Doc Reid and that it can't be assumed that Reid was aware that TB4 injections were going on.

That the players knew that their "supplements regime" was "controversial" at the very least.

That the players took steps to conceal or deflect regarding the programme.

One player who suffered cardiac arrhythmia was referred (by Reid) to a specialist who asked the player what he was taking that might affect the medication he was about to prescribe. Players said only vitamins. Specialist contacted Reid who said no, nothing. (Because Reid had been kept out of the loop.) Serious bickies. Very concerning.

Dank kept records of the programme but he was "patchy" about it.

That the substance was pretty obviously TB4 and that it can't be taken seriously that it was anything else.

That TB-4 got to Essendon. And that maybe some went to other Dank projects but just because some went elsewhere, it can't be inferred that none went to Essendon, which is what the players wanted CAS to find.

That the "chain" from China to Essendon can't be proven, but that it doesn't really matter. It was obvious that TB4 was at Ess and it doesn't matter how it got there.

That the players did not take steps to find out if what they were given was prohibited. that they did pretty much SFA in that regard.

It's pretty damning, but the surprise is that it pretty much lets Doc Reid off the hook.

Furthermore, CAS says players should pay 75% of costs (I assume that will be EFC) and the AFL 25% so CAS found a way to have the AFL implicated as well.  CAS just keeps on giving...

I will stop quoting from the CAS report suffice to say it is pretty clear they slammed shut every possible avenue for EFC, players, AFL AFLPA etc to create any sort of spin in the media.  It is all very, very bad.

Wow. Its as bad as we thought it was.

And for mine Reid was guilty of negligence or wilful oversight. Even gerard Healy said he had heard the Bombers were taking peptides. Reid must have had the Beats up on full volume "la la la I can't hear you..."

Some of them will never understand and will probably occupy a wildlife reserve in Oregon to protest at the overreach of ASADA, WADA, the AFL, the ALP, the LNP, the UN, etc.

It's a shame to lose Melksham for a year but I'm fairly certain the club would have known this was a possibility and would've planned for it.

I wonder if because of this we can upgrade Mitch White off the rookie list as a replacement? Would be a more than handy replacement and sounds like he is training really well.

The other side is that we should be able to pull a top-up player from the other comps which could be handy if we have our eye on a mature age recruit.

Having read through maybe only 5% of the full judgement and seen what a mountain of material I would have to digest before making any sensible comment (other than the final verdict) I am truly impressed how these blokes in the media are able to give such considered opinions so soon.  Truly impressive.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
