Um, yeah he obviously did do exactly that, that's what the complaining is about

Frustrating for all of us, but he's only a kid, and in the scheme of things, this won't have any impact on his career, or in reality, this season. I would have been surprised if he'd played all games, so maybe he'll have to ease into it. He wasn't even in full training as it was.

In the meantime, he gets 4to6 weeks in the naughty corner to reflect upon the responsibilities that come with being a professional athlete. We all learn from our mistakes, and presumably Christian will as well.

Bing I wish you hadn't used the 4to6 phrase! In the MFC context it means we may not see the Trac for months!

I find the reaction on here to Toegate to be incredible. So he injured his toe playing basketball?? Some on here want him banned from doing anything outside Football in case he might, just might, put himself in a situation where he might get an injury that prevents him from training or playing for the Demons. Where do you draw the line? Not allowed to get up a ladder to change a light bulb? Not allowed to go to the shops in case an old man with a stick belts you? not allowed to go out for dinner at a restaurant in case dustin Martin is there having a drink?

Accidents happen. this is minor compared to some of the things that could happen and have happened.

Ban him from training after all he did his knee doing that.

Get some perspective people.

This will be an interesting year for Petracca. We are all physically or physiogically different. Some stronger some weaker and our biomechanics of muscle and limbs, our balance, our weight to power ratios all vary enormously. Success in any sport depends on many attributes, but one of the most important is that under the duress of training and competition , the successful athlete can avoid injury. The continuity of training every day over not a season but multiple seasons is paramount. A friend of mine became a triple Olympian and a household name not because he had more ability than others but because he was able to train every day and compete over many years without injury.  In AFL terms, Nathan Jones is a prime example. Gary Ablett is another. It is very difficult to make it if you are prone to injury. Sometimes injury catches up with players. Wayne Carey is an example. Starting a career with injury problems and an inability to train and play week in week out makes the job very difficult. Give me the guy with the resilient body over the gifted but injury prone athlete or footballer any day.

No, that's all fine, how about just staying away from SPORTS you know, ones that put your toes in danger

Especially if you are a pick 2 who is badly needed by your club and you've already missed a year

just give the bball a miss is probably wise and not too much to ask

Going a bit early with the "prone to injury"?

Both Christian's injuries were the result of accidents, as opposed to a player like Hunt who has spent two years on the sidelines with back issues, or players like Taggert or Tapscott who kept breaking down. As for Chris Dawes ...

I'm not [censored] about the injury. I'm [censored] about how he did it.

In the US, most athletes aren't allowed to engage in physical activity outside of that approved by the team. When they do, they need a team approved trainer with them.

Michael Jordan had the famous "For The Love Of The Game" clause in his contract (that's where the saying comes from) that permitted him to play basketball whenever he wanted under any circumstance.

I find it strange that AFL clubs don't already have a "don't mess around and play backyard sport" as part of the contract. Simply telling a 20-year-old that's bouncing off the walls with energy not to play backyard sports over Christmas isn't enough.

No doubt that if any club put this in the contract, the AFLPA would breathe fire down their necks.

I agree.

To be fair, Hunt's injuries are likely due to his late growth as much as anything.

An ACL during preseason and a broken toe playing basketball,I'm now worried what playing football against competitors who are out to hurt will do to him?

Again it is a metatarsal, not a toe.

Agree, but at this age, all of them are still growing in one way or another.

And if he had been playing lawn bowls and accidentally dropped a bowl on his foot?? we do not allow him to play lawn bowls either?

Unlucky, but no issues with him playing a bit of basketball in the backyard, he's done it his whole life. I imagine it's that his feet aren't used to the loads after such a long time off-legs. It's all a learning experience hopefully and doesn't reduce his own confidence to the get the best out of his body.

It's pretty ridiculous to go crazy over a player getting injured in his time off while playing sports. Not long ago there was a photo on here circulating of a bunch of the young boys playing a bit of backyard cricket which everybody here though was fantastic, yet now some of those same people are acting as if Petracca wasn't within his rights to be shooting a basketball around while he was on holidays. Where do you draw the line? Cricket is fine, but basketball is not? Or perhaps basketball would have been okay if he hadn't injured his toe? And cricket would have been a careless activity if someone had broken their finger going for a catch?

Everybody needs to calm down. He wasn't out getting a DUI, he didn't threaten anyone with a chopstick, and he didn't go and cause $10k worth of damage to cars. He was being a normal human being enjoying his time off. You can't expect him to sit around in bubble wrap from the time he leaves the club in December and returns in January. Posters complain about players coming back underdone, and then complain about players coming back injured from partaking in physical activities.

He should be back running in a maximum of six weeks, which only takes him to mid-February. Still over a month to get his fitness up before round one. Calm down, our season isn't over yet.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
