I agree that although Oliver has impressed a tiny bit better so far we have to take into consideration the team he has around him compared to the team Trengove did which we have the benefit of hindsight with. 

I really hope Trengove can pick up from where he was pre injury.

I wish he could pick up from where he was a year or so before his injury.

He did another of those pick up ,shrug,perfect handpass while drawing a tackle on the wing as well.

Freakish hands.

He is the real deal.

He looks like he has it on a string at times, I noticed it in his highlights video as well. For the first time in a long time we look like we have a player that knows what a football is.

Back to back rising star awards for Melbourne this year with this kid.

I love watching him think in traffic.

He seems to love trying to read a couple of moves ahead.  

I've noticed a couple of times him harassing the player trying to get the ball out (making him think he is being tackled) while looking to assess what the options are and throwing himself at that option to effect the next tackle. 

He's still young, can you imagine what his vision is going to be like in 5 years, if that is how he reads play now.

Footy IQ mixed with aggression.  Great mix. Athletic potential is there too.

Parish looks like being a good player too, but feels like JT and the recruiting team have made the right call again.

Chaser, as I recall you thought he would be a great pick up also....a great recruiter you'd make to....maybe a great assistance/ assistant to our great JT...

It's not just in traffic either. In the last quarter the aints were on a fast break and he was tracking 2 or 3 players, one was Steven I think, the others not sure. He summed it up beautifully by hanging back and not being drawn in too early. He knew who was getting the ball when, and when was the right time to step in. As soon as Steven received the handball Oliver accelerated and was on him like flies on you know what. BALL!!!!!!!

I just love the sheer effort and hunger of the kid, he goes in 3 or 4 times at the contest every time, all day and tries to rip it away, and when he gets it has the pace to burst away

 

I know alot are saying Voss or Black. but i really see more of Chris Judd,

A bit more work on his left hand handball should be part of his development as well. I'm sure he's seeing both sides of the stoppage and has the vision. A good left will see him able to really open up the field.

Even his right hand I think he holds the ball up and punches it a bit much. I think he can smooth it out a bit and make sure he's hitting team mates spot on. 

I find it exciting knowing that Oliver has a lot of traits that are really hard to teach - hardness, vision, agility, presence and still lots to work on with his body and skills (which are at a solid baseline as well, it's not like he's a mile off).

I think you are wrong, Jetta would have been immediately under pressure and the handball was likely to be cut off. Salem was by far the best option of the lot a player in space who has the time to make the right decision, can either clear the ball or as he did spot up and find the right target. 

Technique issues on handballs and kicking are always debatable the fact that he can handball the ball so comfortable from above chest height is a real asset as he will continue to get his hands free in the clinches.

It's hard to argue with a beautiful safe clearing handball. Just a matter of how risky we want to be. You're probably right, in that area of the ground the clearing handball is a wise decision. But in general Melbourne need to handball forward more and break out of packs, not go back behind them. 

Again, so many positives with him, I just think if he develops a bit of smoothness around the rough edges he'll get better and better. That's my main point.

Yeh, I was more just debating the issue, I think his highlight is that he moves his arms above the tackle more often than not allowing him to get it out to space, but this can lead to it being intercepted once or twice. 

Is really raw and will iron out the kinks, but I can't even think now of a player in the afl I have seen handball so well (albeit from 3 nab games) when they are in their first season.
