Some good news for your Friday afternoon, with four young players re-signing!

Billy Stretch and Alex Neal-Bullen have extended their contracts until the end of 2017, while Mitch White and Max King have signed on as rookies for 2016.

Good news regarding King. Have watched him since his under 18s days and you just know there is something definitely there yet to be untapped. His last game against Essendon in the VFL was really exciting. Don't afraid to fly over and crash into packs considering he is still slight. Hoping he has a big summer in the weights room.

Particularly happy about Stretch, looks a handy player.

Shitz if that's the case I will be more than happy to be your wing man!

Great news!

Was very impressed with what Stretch and ANB showed this year. Will be very exciting prospects with another couple of pre-seasons under their belts. King is a project and it's great to see the club is being patient with the (skinny) big man... he has 'something'...

Great news! Think White is a little stiff not to get promoted onto the senior list, but very happy with all 4 extensions.

Big year for King in 2016. He'll either show that he's got what it takes and earn that promotion or it will be goodnight.

I think that you will find that White also has something! Our selection of the four rookies last year was inspired. Obviously Vanders and Harmes were lucky to get a promotion into the Ones!

I'm most excited by the King contract. He looks pretty special.

King was a certainty to get another year after Fitzy was delisted. Still think he will be a player.

He or you are leaving?

Very happy with these signings

What is Jayden Hunt status

Very curious to learn the answer to this question.. if it was me, I'd rookie him.

More interested in hearing about a 6-9 yr deal signed with Hogan.

So that leaves two places on the rookie list. You'd have to think that VandenBerg gets elevated. I would have though Harmes has shown enough to be elevated as well. So we'd be looking for 2 rookies next year. Good point suggesting rookying Hunt, so maybe only 1.

It's implied IT.

As for Harmes, i'd keep him on the RL, hasn't done anything much to suggest that he will add something decent to starting 21 (22 from next year, yay)

So I may have missed it, have we officially upgraded Harmes? He's the only odd one out from our Rookie List from last year now

Ooo, that's tough. He must've been within a beesdick of a Rising Star nomination in the last round.

He'd be ahead of M Jones, JKH and Kent in terms of playing similar position for mine, he'd be in my best 22 next year thats for sure.

Those contested marks Harmes took in the forward line to kick goals in the last game against GWS were pretty special. Plenty to like I would have thought.

I believe both Harmes and King have been on the rookie list for 2 years now. You can only have one 3rd year rookie, that is King. That being said, Harmes has to be cut or upgraded. I'm guessing the latter

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterdayโ€™s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown andย  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
