A Doggie to the Dees

Jennings seems eminently qualified and its a bonus that he has worked with McCartney and Goodwin before.

Good to see our player development and education programs' activity lifted and that players reacted really well to it:

Quote: “Throughout the year we started to introduce a number of changes to the way the coaches delivered information to the players, which had positive feedback from the players and tangible outcomes on game day.

“We will be making some further changes next season to continue creating the best learning environment for our players and ensuring their development.”

I see this as another example of Roos stepping into the background and allowing Goodwin to set up his own support team and structure. By this time 2017 Goodwin will have his own team in place. Love that Roos is giving him the space and authority to quietly build this outside the glare of media spotlights.

a lot is about how the coaching works..not so much the players per se in this instance.. All about delivery of info etc

Yeah that's just the mindset we need to be back contending with the big boys

Its almost like coaching is the same as teaching just with different content.

Amazing.

not almost....IS !!

Straight up the guts and don't bugger around on them flanks.

Yeah that's just the mindset we need to be back contending with the big boys

yeah some more meetings and presentations should do the trick

nah my post was written partially in jest. but i do have a concern that we need so many blokes to teach the players about the game. surely our players should know a lot about the game, watch it, learn tactics, game plans (I certainly did when i played). these days it seems so much like a job that they need to be talked into learning about the game. we have 5 months every year with nothing to do but learn the game plan! it cant be that hard.

with the ball, without the ball. at stoppages. seriously not brain surgery

I'm picturing you as the guy in every cheesy action/sci-fi movie who says things like 'All I need to know is where they are!' and 'Our objective is to find the enemy and kill the enemy!'.

They usually get gruesomely exploded/gored/brainsucked/eaten during the first encounter, as a plot point to make clear that 'the enemy is smarter and more deadly than we thought'.

All we know is that the likes of Hawthorn, Sydney and Geelong occupy long periods in the top 4 while we are simply an embarrassment. There are many areas where we are totally inadequate and dysfunctional and no doubt this type of thing (specialist consultation) is one of them. So if Goodwin and McCartney reckon this is something we need to do then it should have our full support. Lord knows we need every advantage we can get.

Meetings, presentations, analysis and individual training is 'Player Development'.

Poor player development has been the number one criticism of the MFC for the last few decades. Modern football is a lot like brain surgery, that's why the good teams with good coaching, development and game plans cut us up.

have we met before? ;)

We seem to have so many on the non-playing side but this is probably true of all teams these days. Much more interested and concerned about our playing list and the trades and drafts coming up. This is where the improvement has to/will come from.

How about a hypnotist? 'Dawesy, when the footy arrives your hands will be like glue. 1,2,3 awake. Go get em' sport iron gloves'

So we have to find ways to stop them getting into our heads?

Sorry...

Well, it is a business, whether you like it or not.

If it stops players hand balling to stationary targets and for the forwards to present properly i am all for it!!

  • POSTGAME: Sydney

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.

  • CASEY: Northern Bullants

The Casey Demons travelled to a windy Cramer Street, Preston yesterday and blew the Northern Bullants off the ground for three quarters before shutting up shop in the final term, coasting to a much-needed 71-point victory after leading by almost 15 goals at one stage. It was a pleasing performance that revived the Demons’ prospects for the 2025 season but, at the same time, very little can be taken from the game because of the weak opposition. These days, the Bullants are little more than road kill. The once proud club, situated behind the Preston Market in a now culturally diverse area, is currently facing significant financial and on-field challenges, having failed to secure a win to date in 2025.

  • GAMEDAY: Sydney

It’s Game Day, and the Demons have a golden opportunity to build on last week’s stirring win by toppling Sydney at the MCG. A victory today would keep them firmly in the hunt for a finals spot and help them stay in touch with the pack chasing a place in the Top 8. Can the Dees make it two in a row and bring down the Swans?
