A fund has been organised by a couple of MFC facebook groups to "pay" Nathan Jones' $1000 fine for wrestling.

While Jones has to officially pay for his fine himself, the idea of the fund is to show that we support the way Jonesy displayed aggression towards the opposition and the general spirit we played with on the weekend. The money raised can go to other areas for the club, but it's a more symbolic gesture from the supporters.

The idea is between the fb groups and here, if enough of us chuck in $1 or $2 we should be able to match (or better) the $1000 fine.

If you're keen, please put it through before say tomorrow arvo so it gets to the club before the game against North.

Please put the reference as: MFC Fighting Fund

The account details are:

Melbourne Football Club Ltd
BSB 033 000
ACC 977162

If you'd like to confirm the info with the club first feel free to email [email protected] or call them on (03) 9652 1101.

It was organised with Georgina Lewis, who works for the club.

I don't have any money, but I am assured by my good friend and business acquaintance, his Holiness the Prince of Nigeria, that if I send him $1000 to cut through some red tape in his country that he will then deposit the sum of one bajiilion dollars into my account.

I think we should do this instead.

I am willing to split the proceeds. Half a bajillion for me, half a bajillion for the Jones fund.

That looks to be an offer that is hard to refuse Choke!

Thanks OD, I think it's a winner too.

And may I say it's great to be on the receiving end of some of that trademark OD optimism!

Must be similar to the winning ticket I have for the Somalian Lottery. But I can't remember buying it.

Sshhhhhh!

Don't tell them that! It was their mistake!

Just give them all your personal details and account numbers so they can pay you before they realise their error.

Funding player brawls. Hmm.

I admit I enjoyed the Jones wrestle, but I am very uncomfortable with this idea.

Yeah, but you're one of them apologists...

What's next? Stuie serving the next two week suspension that one of our players gets?

Actually that's an idea I can get behind...

I'm sure Nathan can pay his $1000 fine quite comfortably, as well as continue to get support from people within the club on his aggression and the way he plays his footy. It won't change, even without a 'fighting fund' to support it.

Edit: Why don't you just send him a string of tweets to show your support, Stuie?

His match payment is 18k, a grand less would help alleviate the tax bill.

What a bunch of "all talk-ers" you blokes are.

As explained, clearly Nathan Jones doesn't need the money, and it's not going to him anyways because it can't.

It's a symbolic show of support for the spirit shown this year and the weekend's game in particular.

It's funny, the facebook groups have got right behind it and understand the nature of it, yet good old 'Land just have a whinge as usual.

I'm a little annoyed that I have to point the irony in this out, but I'm quite sure at least 30% of the 'Demonland whingeing' comes from you.

I would think it was a good idea if Stuie didn't.

FFS Stuie, the boys have served up so much crapola over the past decade, they should be sending us money for a while yet!

As they say "one swallow does not make a spring". Love the tough stuff, but a "fighting fund"!

Bring the same intensity week in and week out is actually the bare necessity of earning their huge salaries.

Yeah, but at least I don't "just" whinge.

It's just a symbolic show of support, it's no big deal, it won't even be much money, it's like the little kid who sent Wattsy his pocket money.

Look, in the end, if you don't wanna do it, don't do it. Simple as that. Stay there behind your computer bashing our past admin, and Dawesy, and Wattsy, and whoever else you wanna bash to make you feel like a "real supporter". This is a group of supporters doing something practical for a bit of positive support and really just a bit of a laugh.

But if you're joy comes just from bashing the club and each other, then by all means continue as you were.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
