Well thats not true

David Neitz made the AA team as both a back and a forward, and theres other examples of guys who switched or can play both ends equally well

Steve Silvagni another prime example. Matt Pavlich also made the AA team as a back and then a forward

mcdonald is no where near a neitz or pavlich

I think we should just concentrate on fast tracking some kids now, and giving Michie a decent run at it.

Use the rest of the year to sort through the chaff, see who it is worth putting time into.

Give White and Hunt a run in the ones. St Kilda played more first year players than we did on the weekend.

We need to unearth some new young talent, step them up and get them in there.

I'd like to see ANB start in the midfield, give Michie a decent run in there.

If need be, rest Jones or drop Tyson. It is most important we fast track some young talent.

You think it's not broken?

It is and rather than accept it then things need to change.

I would start with Dawes out and a small/medium in. Tommy Mc forward/ruck...we can't see how well Tommy handles the forward line until he gets a run at it without Dawes taking up space.

only seems like yesterday mcdonald was up for AA selection as a backman now you want him to be a chf ,forwards are forwards backmen are backmen

I think you missed the point of my comment Barney.

I was referring to the Smart ( I think humorous ) comment rjay made.

Nothing to with player ability.

B Howe, Dunn, Jetta
HB Lumumba, Garland, Grimes
C Watts, Vince, M Jones
HF Stretch, Hogan, Harmes
F T McDonald, Dawes, Garlett
Fol Gawn, Viney, N Jones
Int Tyson, Cross, Michie, Brayshaw (sub)

In: M Jones
Out: Vandenberg

• Dawes and Hogan are too slow to play in the same forward line, but we don’t have any depth and I don’t like the idea of two ruckmen.
• We don’t have enough pace and we need to pick some additional outside runners like M Jones, JKH and/or Hunt. I have just gone for Jones.
• Vandenberg is out of touch and needs a run in the VFL.
• Tyson’s kicking is poor, but the potential replacements are worse.
• Brayshaw needs a rest and starts as sub. Stretch probably needs a rest too, but that would make us slower.
• Tom McDonald starts forward for the rest of 2015.

My biggest pet hate and one thing that pisses me off is that we bring in the likes of Harmes Riley Vandenberg ANB Newton and even Brayshaw who are all good inside attacking midfielders and they leave them on a half forward for majority of games.

give the likes of VandenBerg and Harmes a decent crack in the middle even ANB aswell. They have proven at VFL level they can win big numbers of the ball yet they think its better to plonk them on a half forward and leave them there for most of the game..!

Look at Vandenberg when he played as an on baller all game against WB. 29 Disposals 10 tackles and a big reason why we won the game because of his ferocity at the contests and hardness.

just on hogan,he had better realise he is the new boy in town and pull his head in,he is just a kid and knows nothing about afl yet, hope he wakes up soon or could end up like col, just one more pre season

We are playing too many inside mids and need to recruit some pace and class.

Vandenberg needs to go back to the VFL and find some footy.

I'd just like to see I'd like to see McDonald back, Howe forward, with Michie, Vanders and Nibbler in the middle. Players in their most natural positions. It seems to be a lot to ask for.

Yea comparing a first year player who is only 20 years old and played only 14 games to a guy that kicked his missus in the face and got on the turps hard every weekend.. plus the laziness and lack of work ethis Col showed his whole career.. right..

Try again

Anyone's guess at the minute. If he's playing well, CHF. This is also Hogan's most natural position, but because Dawes couldn't outmark a leprechaun, Hogan is forced into playing closer to goal.

We badly need another key forward.

What are you on about you absolute peanut!? Col showed nothing in his first couple of years to suggest he was on the verge of being a superstar. What did you like about his amazing 1 handball debut game? Hogan has already shown he has the makings of the next J Brown. Like all young players he has flaws he needs to work on but he has the right attitude and work ethic to do.

Col doesn't and never did. Is that to much for your pea little brain to work that out?

We really need to start winning more games to stop this sort of go-nowhere conversation among friends.

Two definite outs for mine. Dawes and Stretch. Harmes perhaps too but I've seen more from him than Stretch in the past 2 weeks. Newton/Riley/Salem/Toumpas (latter 2 if fit) and a ruck back into contention. Dawes is a waste of space on the field, he's shown he can work hard (for a while), but he's too big and gets in the way of Hogan (and McDonald when he's there) constantly, who are greater threats. We need space in the forward line. We can't get that with Hogan and Dawes there together. We can try two genuine rucks again as the only time it didn't work was in Darwin. Brayshaw's looked tired for 3 weeks so maybe sub him but I'd still like to see him.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
