Changes vs Eagles

Grimes isn't best 22, but Salem would take his spot anyway. Next year, Kent will take Howe's. Not sure Trengove is best 22. He'd have to prove himself at VFL level first. With a few more Roos/Taylor/Viney specials this off season and we'll start to see some depth in some of these positions emerge.

Not sure that Trengove "has to prove himself at VFL level first"! Surely, if he gets in a full pre-season and 'proves himself in the NAB Challenge and practice matches, he plays from Round 1!

Grimes was one of the best afield in his last game which was vs the saints. The existence of Salem has little to do with it. He is in contention for the 22 and clearly so is Trengove WHEN, not if, he returns.

At the moment Grimes is best 22 IMO. He's played some good games this year and will continue to improve in the back half of the season. He also adds leadership to a team that lacks leaders. Salem is very young and I think will push onto the midfield next year or in 2017.

The thing about Grimes which I haven't seen mentioned here is that his kicking has improved enormously this year IMO and something he deserves credit for.

Needs a few more games to be proven though. I'm all for him getting them off the back of what I've seen but I'm not yet convinced he's really hitting his straps again

Agreed.

The other thing he's improved is his willingness to take the game on - last year he resorted too frequently to backwards and sideways kicks and handpasses. This year he's grabbed the ball and run forwards off half-back a lot more. Really impressed with that aspect of his game too.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
