Demonland Player of the Year - Round 11

Circumstances prevented me seeing or listening to the game (except for a very positive review of the contest at half time on 774 (sorry - I'm a hyphen after all!)), so I'm not voting as such, but I'm struck by the relative positivity of this thread - notable absence of the usual "daylight the rest" after the first one or two vote-getters, for example - compared with the Postmatch Discussion. Is 'the big picture' a little better, then, than the immediate distress?

Toump shades it for BOG honours in what was easily his best game for the club. Jones had 12 inside 50s as opposed to Bernie's 4 and was a bit more precise with his ball use.

Could a first year player win this prestigious award for the first time ever?

Am I the only one who thought some of Gawn's hit outs were really valuable.. Yes he needs to hold more marks, but he is already better than Jamar and if those marks start sticking he is a very valuable player.

Jones misses out because in my opinion he wasn't as switched on as he should have been at the end with the set up

Neither were the other six you mentioned.

Totally, our midfield is made to look so much better with Gawn there. Would love to see hitouts to advantage stats since he's come in.

I said this in another thread. He does need to hold those marks. Aside from Gawn's tapping he has been doing something that Jamar has not done since his AA year - that is getting involved. Jamar for the past seasons has taken centre bounces and boundary throw in's ruckwork and then been completely absent for the balance of the game. Gawn gets busy and involved.

Bernie voted BOG by both coaches!
10 Bernie Vince (Melb)
8 Leigh Montagna (StK)
5 Jesse Hogan (Melb)
5 Nick Riewoldt (StK)
2 Sean Dempster (StK

Bernie is 2 players in 1: Can close down champs while getting fair bit of the ball and a few goals.

Looks like Jesse got 2 and 3.

Happy for both getting this recognition.

Pretty well spot on BBO and I was there. Only change for me might be Viney in for perhaps for Gawn.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
