MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 10

Featured Replies

I hope the final bench is Brayshaw, Grimes, Toumpas, Michie (sub).

McDonald to Cloke, Fitzpatick to White and Dunn to kick torpedoes from the goal square.

I hope Tyson gets a late call up...

We have next to no class mids in the team, the one we have is playing for Casey.

I predict that Spencer will be the sub and will be brought on in the third quarter to replace Gawn who doesn't have the fitness to ruck for a full game.

That's so ridiculous I can actually see it happening.

I just don't understand our selections this year:

Tyson misses two weeks and has to return through Casey.

Viney misses six weeks and is fit enough to play AFL, but only fit enough to play as sub.

Newton is dropped twice in a month and recalled the following week twice without playing a game at Casey.

Michie and Riley come in and out of the team on a weekly basis without seemingly doing much wrong in the AFL or anything different at Casey.

Fitzpatrick stays in the side even when there is no match up for him.

Howe and Lumumba remain undroppable irrespective of lack of form and effort. I would hate to think that either sits higher in Roos' thinking than Grimes given recent performances.

Given how ridiculous our sub choices have been this year, I predict that Spencer will be the sub and will be brought on in the third quarter to replace Gawn who doesn't have the fitness to ruck for a full game.

Yep that would be ridiculous. If we get an injury 10minutes in we'd be cooked.

It's just so crazy it might work

Nah he's right. Grimes above Watts any day.

Really?

For a start it's a false dichotomy, however you clearly don't care where the ball goes once it leaves our player.

Watts is not the complete footballer but his use is exceptionally good. I just wish he won more of the footy. We'd have a fraction of the turnovers.

Leaving aside the injuries that side is as good as it gets for June IMO

If this side cannot get close to the Pies the next month will be very sad.

I've been waiting for Gawn to get a crack as lone ruck. Praying that Spencer is left out. He's been ok but I reckon Max will respond to the bigger responsibility.

Grimes has improved his disposal sine coming back into the team. Would have him above Watts easily.

Id love for Watts to come out and kick 6 and show some aggression on Monday but we know that wont happen

Never has in the past WAC

Plays well at Casey then ordinary at AFL level.

I pray you are correct because he is the only addition this week that could impact the sides performance over last week.

I personally think the pies are not that good. Their renowned midfield depth is gone. Swan, Pendles and sidebottom remain and could be the difference but they fall away after that. Pendles is carrying an injury.

their defence isnt great, ruck is OK, and forward line OK again with elliot the X factor. They have 8 players injured (/suspended) that are either first 18 or on the fringes

I am not saying we are better but I think we are fairly evenly matched. We just have to bring the attitude and hunger and play as a team. The pies play much better team/pressure football

I agree with this.

I am having visions of before the Bulldogs game when everyone on here said we had no chance.

That is two more than we have DubDee

Our list is Jones and then Vandenberg who is still learning at AFL level and a couple of kids who are still wet behind the ears at this level.

If we can break even in the mid field we have a chance but this area is and has been our our major weak point for some time.

While it has improved it is still a bottom six grade lot.

I agree with this.

I have visions of how confident we all where last week and how Port were playing way behind their efforts of 2014.

Hmm remind what happened again?

Would be disappointed if Spencer gets the chop. Been rucking quite well and has contributed more in fewer games than Jamar did.

I have no idea what the expect on Monday.

Actually, I do: a loss.

Exactly - Spencer has been good/OK the last couple of weeks, why would they bring in Gawn who has only had one decent game at Casey in the last month or so?

Ok you win

No expectations for Monday, whatever happens happens.

I did not want to win h_h

Just injecting a varying opinion.

To remain sane I am trying to view each match on its merits and try and not use the who beat who recently.

Last week I went with who has beaten who and we had just had a good win and I failed miserably.

This week who has the best team?

Pies I am afraid

I don't know that they have the better team, but they certainly do have the better attitude... the pies will be brimming with confidence following their comeback against the kangas last week. If we can stay within a couple of kicks of them by three quarter time, then I will start to have some belief that we could snatch an unexpected win.

Add Viney and Vince in there and we are not so far behind. My point is they used to have 6-7 players to watch so if we can tag one and play well ourselves we are a shot

I knowe are all gutted from last week

but despite recent form, Port are a top 4 side. The Pies are not even a top 8 side in my opinion. The ladder means not much til everyone has played each other

Its friday - lets save the pesimism for Tuesday! :-)

Hopefully we kick more than 3 goals

How dare you question the MFC website which states that:

Dawes has been given one more week so "he can get back his explosiveness and marking power"

Surely U are taking The Pizz

I thought the same but he has to go to White if he plays. Only option for him.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
