Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

National Under 18 Championships - 2015

Kennedy has done a knee (medial?) and probably out for the year. Might also (conveniently for GWS) drive his bidding price down.

I think the expectation with Kennedy is that he makes it back for some NEAFL and possibly TAC Cup appearances, but definitely out for Champs.

The minimum expectation is that he's ranked in the top 15 or so. I would have expected him to move further up, but yeah, that may not happen now. SHould still cost GWS some future picks I would have thought.

It must be contagious for those academy lads. Sydney's #1 academy draft prospect Callum Mills is also going to miss the under-18 national championships with a shin injury ~ Callum Mills to miss . Swans insisting they're not playing ducks and drakes to reduce his price.

Bailey Rice, a father son eligible for either of Carlton or St Kilda is also injured. The injuries to the other two probably won't change the bidding but Rice definitely could go a bit later as a result of going under the radar.

...and to think the AFL are considering zones. That's a winner, no chance of ducks and drakes there.

Today's game was the lesser in terms of both excitement factor and potentially high draft pick prospects.

The word among recruiters is that this is not a strong draft and the Vic Metro and WA teams are just so so.

U18s: Jack Silvagni boots six as Vic Metro thumps WA

WESTERN AUSTRALIA 2.2 2.4 5.4 7.5 (47)

VIC METRO 4.1 9.6 13.6 19.7 (121)

GOALS

Western Australia: Waterman, Hinchcliffe, Clark, Schoenfeld, Daniels, Zurharr

Vic Metro: Silvagni 6, Clarke 3, Kerbatieh 3, Hardwick 2, Moore 2, Gresham, Gallucci, Perry

BEST

Western Australia: Hinchcliffe, Mountford, Ridley, Snadden, Clark, Schoenfeld

Vic Metro: Gresham, Clarke, Silvagni, Balic, Phillips, Batty

Clark & Galucci(spelling?) look lively types for Vic metro. They would both compliment our list well as skilled hard running type players who also enjoy the contest. Does anyone have much background info on these two? Galucci is a bottom ager I believe.

This question is to the people who actually know a fair bit about the next crop of draftees...who is the ready made mid roughly 187/188cm and 88/89/90 kg. Who loves the contested ball...tackles hard and accumulates big disposal numbers consistently, and will be available with draft pick number 5..??

Rhys Mathieson. 185 cm, but meets the other criteria. Like many inside mids, may slide to lower half of top 10 as flashier types with higher perceived upside get taken higher, but I think he's worthy of a high selection. Consistent with a well rounded game.

Haven't paid too much attention to Galucci, but Clarke's really popped up this year with some excellent TAC Cup performances for Eastern. Good size (186cm) and a pretty good athlete, Clarke's probably moved himself into mid 1st rd range. Can play fwd too.

Just done some reading on Gallucci, he is only 16 & has been in Metro's best in all their games so far. Looks like he will be a gun in the future.

Clarke really stood out to me in the second quarter of the WA game. Ran hard, won his own ball & also got on the end of a few to kick a few goals. Possible a BOG performance. Looks like his draft range is mid first round depending on his TAC form.

Kurt Mutimer, Vic Country, is playing down back in the Championships at present. Had a little to do with him. For mine, definitely comes under notice as a late pick. Plenty of talent but flies under the radar. Great kid and I'll be ken to see how he performs today against SA.

that should seal the carnival for vic country.

when was the last time three talls were picked with the first three picks? schache, weitering and francis a very good chance in 2015.

Francis looks good on tape - from the very little I have seen. But to assess the kid, I'd say he moves extremely well, kicks well on both feet - and is versatile. Weitering also moves well, is strong through the core, looks well balanced, and times the ball well. Those 2 players would be my clear top 2 atm. I haven't seen a lot of Schache, he does appear to be a smooth mover for a forward. I probably wouldn't overlook the other 2 in favor of him though, that would be risky. I think Parish might be the kid who slides to us, and he is very good user of the football, I'd be happy if we landed Parish. I still really like Glen as well, although I have no idea as to where he is perceived to go in the draft.

If Parish slides to us I will be doing a merry jig! Tucker, Parish and Mattherson should have gone too 3 but with some outstanding performances from the talls have seen them slip down the order. Schache has done a Petracca and moved from a 10-15 range to number 1 contention. Still a lot of football to be played but anyone who goes in the top 5 is going to be a serious gun. This top end is mouthwatering

Glen might have pushed himself up from a late pick up into third round range.

Enough time in the season left for him to move further, especially if he ends up playing well in TAC Cup finals.

NSW v Tas on now on AFL website. Hopper (GWS Academy) is one of the best kids in the draft. One's for us to have an eye on are Minogue, Faul, Coughlan and maybe Flynn, from NSW. Lovell and Sushames are interesting types for Tas. I hear Lovell is a relative of Chopper Lovell, very small but a prolific ball winner.

Thanks for that CJ.

Any idea why they didn't stream or televise the SA v Vic Country game last week given it was the feature match of the carnival to date?

Chaser, enjoying your work re the Under 18's. Having watched Hawthorn's lefties on Thursday, any idea who the prominent cackies are this year? Tough question I know.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
