AFL - Round 5 (non MFC Games)

...but Carlton really are horrible.

Yeah, ain't it great?

I wouldn't mind poaching Cripps from them.

This is what other supporters must have felt when watching Melbourne with so many dud players and very little prospects for the future.

Abject boredom with some mild relief that it's not them?

Cant wait to play the scum !!! :)

I reckon Gibbs is worth a first round pick to a good side, but the blues need to be aggressive at the trade table and get some decent young talent in

Not based tonight's game he's not. Long way off his best.

Micks got the record now it's time to go, clearly not working.

And Seven have 4 more of these shitfest Carlton Friday night matches to look forward to!

Meanwhile, talented young lists like Melbourne, GWS and the Bulldogs have none. Some fantastic forward planning there by the geniuses at Channel 7.

The Malthouse chosen game a is boring life's affair. The Blues are a steaming, stinky rubbish tip on fire. Well done Mick.

Bring the Dees back to Friday nights!!!

Cameron Ling doesn't know the rules of the game either, you are not allowed to be bumped of the ball is not within 5m Cam.

Good call 'Cards', was saying exactly the same thing to a mate...but it's not just Ling it's the other commentators who agreed and the umps who are not paying it.

Beat me to it 'Fester'...probably the only one of their players worth poaching at the moment. Looks like he will be a beauty.

Carlton making Collingwood look better than they are.

Yep, they've got Geelong, Richmond, GC, North then us. North will give them a physical game if nothing else then they ours for the taking. Viney and Jetta will be back and barring no further injuries were a massive chance.

You know what.. for all the [censored] Jack Watts cops for being soft how Bryce Gibbs gets under the rader mind boggling.

I've been saying for a while that Collingwood will be good. Unlike a lot of teams, they got rid of their good players while they still had some value (as much as it has hurt them in recent years).

True but when Geelong beat Richmond the focus will turn.

They have a lot of good kids, plus a few who haven't played. The win over the Bombers took most by surprise but wins over Saints/lions/Carlton aren't an accurate gauge. Next week interesting vs Geelong. A team on the way up v one on the way down.

I enjoy watching friday night but Ive tuned off. Boring game. Also why the hell is Geoffrey Eddleston in the carlton coach's box. Im sure Mick will love that.

Agree entirely.

I've been rambling on about this ever since the fixture came out but Carlton wasn't even any good last year, they should never have gotten close to 6 Friday nights (+ a Thursday night). It's indefensible that the football public has to be repeatedly subjected to watching boring Friday night beltings (the remaining games include Carlton away to Sydney and a Hawthorn v Carlton game - those are going to be enormous thrashings).

It only adds insult to injury that Melbourne, the Bulldogs and GWS have improved to the point where games involving them would be competitive, maybe even exciting, and definitely a lot closer than Carlton v Sydney/Hawthorn.

Nobody panic about Friday night Carlton withdrawals in the next fortnight after Collingwood v Geelong next week, as normal service resumes the week after with Carlton v Geelong on Friday. And guess what follows that? Sydney v... Carlton. Don't worry though, Carlton is back on Friday nights in Round 17 against... Hawthorn.

FMD I'm glad this fixturing completely blew up in Seven's face after completely screwing us and the Bulldogs over. Something like 7 Friday night games each for Richmond, Carlton and Collingwood, of which only one team is any good. So much for needing to "earn" Friday nights!

Can't believe the Pies picked up Grundy at pick 18! He will be the best ruck man in the comp b the end of next year, if not this year. We haven't had a good ruck men since Jeff White (no offence to Jamar I like his effort but he isn't in the same league).

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
