Yeah me too, but I do worry about these new big deals.... look at Franklin. Since he was on the real big money whats he done?? Then again theres no other option I guess.

The thing that I can see with Jesse is that he's driven to be the best and absolutely hates losing. Paying him big money on a lengthy contract wouldn't change this.

Yes i think your probably right with this kid. Just saying many millions of dollars can be distracting for a young lad.

What are you suggesting, just let someone else give him the money so they can deal with the distracted superstar?

Ask him how much he wants to earn over his football career. Then simply fill in the number of years.

I'm guessing a young man would like $10million

On a one club entire career basis that would be a bargain.

Front and rear end the contract and away we go.

$2mill

$1mill

No, if youd read my earlier post i said its not like we have a choice....

He would be watching the bullies delivering to their forwards and thinking, I would have 80 goals this year if I was at that club.

If we don't improve by a massive margins next year, he will walk the year after to a better club.

Do we have to hear this after every bad loss? It's actually disrespectful to Hogan.

It's my opinion, and I truly believe he will leave the club eventually.

Wether that is 2, 5, 8 years I'm not sure. But I don't have faith he will be a one club player.

So why doesn't the same ridiculous fear mongering apply to Gus Brayshaw?

He is a mid from vic, won't get near the same amount of money thrown at him by other clubs especially those from his home state.

In this day and age he could get enormous amounts thrown at him regardless.

The point is, you're spending too much time despairing over losing Hogan. He is contracted to us at the moment, he puts in more effort than most on game day and he clearly seems to love playing with his mates. What will be, will be but I think he'll be with the MFC for a long time and I expect the club will do what they need to to ensure that this happens. We are improving and every time I've ever heard him speak, he indicates that he is very passionate and very keen to spearhead this improvement and make the club great again.

Smokey for future captain?

I'm petrified that I'm finally seeing a forward show as much promise as the Ox and I can't help but think/feel he will up and leave us.

I'll try and stop now.

What did Cripps do this week? Hoges would have helped his chances of Rising Star with 3 goals in a rubbish team this week

Cripps was the leading disposal winner for his team with 25.... Hardly going to hurt his chances with that performance...

The thing that I can see with Jesse is that he's driven to be the best

When asked what he thought about the rising star award and his competition for the award.

"Sheed and esp. Cripps is going really well. Getting over 35 last week, mid 20's in the last month....(hesitates)... actually haven't really paid attention and just trying to improve himself"

He is tracking everyone and wants to be better then everyone.

This was interesting:

http://www.triplem.com.au/melbourne/shows/rush-hour-with-james-brayshaw-and-billy-brownless/podcasts/

If you're OK to download the 53MB and get to the Jesse interview, his somewhat equivocal (look it up?) response to the "How do you like living in Melbourne?" question was where the worry lies for me.

Meanwhile, though, it's great to have him with us - with a bunch of other good stuff (albeit spasmodically!), it makes watching/following the Dees a little bit better than it has been in recent years!

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
