Its also why the Saints went for McCartin over Petracca. The price of a key/power forward has skyrocketed since the Buddy deal......

And again with the ludicrous Boyd deal.

Said every Melbourne supporter

Not just Dees fans. Went with Hawks fans to that game and they were genuinely disappointed he was not going to play.

I've got a feeling Jesse's gonna get mad, turn green and kick his first 5 goal bag this weekend.

Set your recorders boys and girls.

It's definitely imminent. I can feel it too.

Won't be too disappointed if it happens on the QB weekend when I'll be present. First time at the MCG since 2008. Can't wait.

And you live just across the Tasman!?

I live in Tasmania, not New Zealand. :P

I've had three kids in that time, moved house three times, changed jobs three times including one complete career change. Haven't had the cash or the time to be gallivanting back and forth across Bass Strait. Tried to go last year (http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/topic/36432-mcg-to-tullamarine-airport-travel-time/) but circumstances didn't go in my favour. Going to try and make it happen at least once a year from now on.

And all it took was Jesse Hogan.

You don't ask for much do you!

I understand your situation only too well but when you live in WA, Tassie seems like a 9 iron to the MCG.

Indeed. Mostly the issue has been guilt - didn't want to go on these junkets while the Mrs was stuck at home with the constant baby churn. Kids are a bit older now though so we have a bit more freedom.

Anyhoo. Jesse Hogan eh?

This from Wayne Carey this morning:

When Hogan was lining up for one of his three goals against the Doggies last week, rival skipper Robert Murphy was apparently doing his best to put him off by screaming "You can't miss this, you're Melbourne's great white hope".

Indeed, in his 16th season, Murphy probably had every reason to believe that sledging a first-year player might work. Which is why Hogan's response, after kicking the goal, is truly priceless. "And there's your great white hope," he retorted, pointing to Tom Boyd, who was sitting on the Dogs' bench at the time.

So good to have players that the wider competition are noticing. Has been a while (see, eg, Jones being left out of top 50s his whole life despite being a beast).

Can't wait to have Petracca back with Hogan, Brayshaw, Salem etc next year. I reckon we're really building and people will sit up and take proper notice soon.

Loved that sledge when I read it over coffee this morning. I had only just logged on to post it but pleased to see that BBP had beaten me to the punch.

I get the buddy deal - again...exposed form. Whether we like Buddy or not we have to agree that on his day ( and he has quite a few of them) he is a game winner.

Boyd has no exposed form to justify the tag.

I was gobsmacked at the price GWS paid for Scully but even he had shown during his two seasons with us he could run all day. Did not think he was ever worth the money paid but at least you had some idea of what you were getting.

The Boyd play is the riskiest investment in AFL history that I can recall.

He's going to get hold of a defence at some point this year and kick a bag, imo he's been building each week

Boyd was bought and paid for on future expectations - both of his form and also that the salary cap will soar post-2017 and his salary will be more the norm than the exception.

Hogan is going to be earning a large fortune - justifiably - in his next contract.

I think Hogan could get his bag of goals at any time... he's not building towards it, but rather he's waiting to get consistent quality delivery from the mids.

I don't think there's anything about Hogan that could be described as waiting. He's here.

To state the obvious, the bag is most likely to come on a day when we get right on top of somebody and smash them, I'm thinking R11 vs the Saints or R16 vs the Lions

I'm actually quietly confident that he will boot 5 this weekend against Port.

I am not writing Boyd off as he is 19 but are you confident his form will soar ?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
