The other 'old chestnut': The QB game.

- Years ago it was 'special'. A lot has changed. Now with a 3.30 (I think) start, the day before a school day, at the end of a long-weekend when many people have gone away, it is little more than a bog-standard, stand-alone Sunday twilight game. There are so many games now the neutral supporter has suffered 'footy fatigue' so unlikely to go.

- The Pies now sell 'away' game memberships (monies they keep) so the game day takings are not/won't be the money spinner we would like it to be.

So, lets not treat it (and Eddie's so called gift) with reverence it does not deserve. Throw it back into the mix...we would get a home game against Coll at least every 2 years anyway.

Anzac Day - Essendon &Collingwood

The debate pros and cons will go on. For mine, it's a farce that these 2 teams, and especially Hubris Hirds mob have a monopoly on this great occasion.

I have always advocated that this day should belong to the 2 sides who played off in the GF, this approach gives the opportunity for any team to play. This monopoly is outdated and needs review.

As for the bombers....well what else can be said!

Only reason I usually watch them play is in the hope that the pies lose. This year I hope they cane the bombers.

On a slightly different tangent, I'd like to see us develop a new "blockbuster" game. Essendon and Richmond created the Dreamtime game and deservedly have it to themselves; I'm not sure whether Richmond or Carlton did the heavy lifting, but they now appear to have a stranglehold on the opening game in round one. It's time we created a new blockbuster. I'm not sure what it should be or who it should be against, but I'd look at whether the 'Field of Women' concept could be converted into an annual blockbuster, perhaps on Mothers Day.

It's important for the club to create a new blockbuster game because there is no guarantee that Queen's Birthday will continue as a public holiday for much longer for three reasons: (1) We may become a republic; (2) When the Queen passes away the holiday may depart with her; (3) the Victorian Government wants to establish a public holiday on the Friday before the Grand Final (dumb idea, in my book) but given Victoria already has more public holidays than any other State in Australia, the Government might "abolish" one public holiday to create the new one, and Queen's Birthday would be a logical one for a pro-republic party to identify as the one to be chopped.

I agree La Dee - time to make our own blockbuster with a its own heritage.

I think our club and Tigers are working to make the Anzac Eve fixture permanent (despite Eddie's protestations).

Both Rich and Melb have a strong connection of players who were ANZAC's or lost during the campaign

I recall the 'Checker Hughes' cup getting a mention

This years' game (this Fri night) is a bit of a test to see how successful it is.

Altho this year is a Rich home game it would rotate.

Really hope the club starts promoting it this week so all Dees supporters know about it and get there.

Whilst the Anzac Day game is a sellout (or close enough to) each year, there really is no argument. It's all well and good to say that the game should be shared around, but it would be embarrassing to have a crowd of 50K there for Melbourne and whoever.

We have been give the opportunity to turn Anzac Day Eve into an event of significance, and that is what our attention should be focussed on. Yes, it is a Richmond home game this year, but MFC 11 game members get in as well, and a crowd of 70K may well give us a lucrative event to host next year.

I think that having the bottom of the Final 8 team, versus the team that just missed out on finals, is appropriate. And it adds weight for teams to try to fight the season out to gain that spot for this blockbuster.

... this process made their decision making to fall in favour of the bigger drawing clubs, which only served to strengthen the strong clubs of that time, & further undermine the poorer clubs of, & before, 'those times'.

'the commission' listens too much to the clubs & the coaches, & far too little to the supporters, they're wants & needs.

if the people turn off, its the boards/commissions faults, for poor decisions.

Friday night is also a replacement home game for MFC, to cover the two NT games, so your membership gets you in, so misinformation on a grand scale
