Another one - the last time we had two more wins than losses at the end of a round - Round 22, 2006.

We've had four chances to do this this year (we were 1-0, 3-2, 4-3 and 5-4 and lost our next game each time).

We beat GWS twice in 2012 and GC twice in 2011, though if you don't count those then yes, Richmond in 2010 is the last time.

Yeah, not counting the expansion sides.

A chance to break two streaks on QBD this week:

Win on Queen's Birthday - 8 game losing streak (last won on QBD in 2007).

Beat the same team twice in the same season - haven't done this since 2012, haven't done it to a non-first-year-expansion-side since 2010 (Richmond).

Knocked these two out.

This week we get the chance to win in Sydney for the first time since 2006, which sounds like a long time, but in fact is only a 2-game losing streak given we've only been away to Sydney twice since then (2007 and 2012, when we lost by 100 but Howe took mark of the year).

"We lost by 100 but Howe took mark of the year". If I was to roll up all of the games from the Neeld era and make them one, that's probably how I'd describe it.

Not an official record but I believe we may have broken another hoo doo. When was the last time the Demons were such a big favorite (both with scribes and the bookies) in a blockbuster game ...and got the chocolates!?

Maybe it wasn't that long ago but im thinking back to a fairly big build up to a match against the Toiges in the 90s when Gazza & the Wiz were up and about. Seem to recall a big game build up but we were considered the favourites. The Wiz took a screamer in the forward pocket/flank in front of general members area at one point and we went on to win well from memory.

Regardless, even though the Pies fielded a pretty ordinary outfit, we still had a huge mental girdle to break out of on QB and we did it convincingly. We also played at least one quarter of 'finals quality' football in the 2nd.

We are a fair way off challenging the top 6 consistently but also not that far off holding our own against anyone from 7 down IMO, provided we have most of those who played on Monday fit & available.

Another quality (experienced) mid in next draft would be very handy.

That was rnd 22 in 98. Tiges needed to win to make the finals - we needed to win to make top 4 I think. We won by 76 in front of 76k. Yeah, wiz sat on Garry's head early in the first.

Nasher, you know these same posters would be blaming you on this thread if the pies had beat us in an upset

Another one knocked off. Next week, hoping it's the 'Aints at Etihad.

Another strange feeling is that we are at round 15 and I'm not just counting the rounds until the end of the year! That must be a first for a while.

I personally don't think we will make the finals but how long has it been since we have though 'if we want any chance of playing finals, next week is must win.' We mathematically are still a possibility so we have to tick all boxes still for the unlikely to happen. That kind of pressure is quite refreshing!

Freo and Ross Lyon records to go thanks!

Can we add winning in the NT, which we haven't done since 2011 (7 games all up) just so we can break three records in one night?

Just five home and away hoodoos left. Four of which we still have a chance to beat this season.

I gotta say, this one coming up this week is one of the big ones I want irradiated! Beating saints at Etihad can't even remember the last time, and it's been 10 years since we've beaten them anywhere. 10 years FCS!

I've got a fair few saints fans as well so they don't let me forget it! Also when was/have we ever won a match the week after a game in Darwin?

We've never won after Darwin and the last time we beat St Kilda the Concordes were still flying from London to New York (2002).

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
