Demonated 252 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Yeah, it wasn't really a smother I guess. But as you say, it showed how completely comfortable he is with the physical stuff, because he chose exactly the right thing to do. He didn't try to tackle him, or to knock the ball away, which would have been ineffective. Didn't hit him too high or too low, and didn't overcook it and risk a free. Just hit him hard enough to knock him right off balance, and the ball just dropped so that he could pick it up uncontested.Correct his instincts in tight and in that contest in particular were spot on and he showed no signs of hesitation. Was exciting stuff and perfectly executed. Quote

Straight Sets Simon 23,113 Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 vandenBerg always seems to get his arms free in the tackle and gives off cleanly and his 'cut' inside Saad and kick to Garlett for Jeffy's first goal was a thing of beauty. Garlett missed the goal but the point still stands, that cut was a thing of beauty. If anyone has footage of it that would be great. 1 Quote

Sorry, the tape on my old fangled VCR was destroyed after my drink slid off its coaster spilling into the tape feed mechanism causing me to lose the entire game. Note to self... never again use DVDs as drink coasters. Quote

Akum 2,660 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Beautifully weighted kick too - it would have to be for Jeffy to take a contested mark. Quote
DeeZee 7,496 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Vanders just looks like he is the complete package.....big body, knows how to find the footy, hurts the opposition, kicks goals, great Mark, and good tackler. We've got another like this possibly even better in Petracca , so Future looks good and I love the big bodied team mentality. 3 Quote
The Devil Inside 2,147 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 The supposed story on Vandenberg and not sure of the veracity, we went to have a look at Frost playing for the GWS magoos and they happened to be playing Ainslie in the NEAFL and Vandenberg stood out When I spoke to him first up said he had played against some AFL midefielders who were playing for Swans/GWS/Suns/Lions reserves in the NEAFL and thought he went alright against them so knew that if he got the chance to be drafted he had some of the tools to make a go of it 11 Quote

Another good reason to keep plundering GWS!! The gift that keeps on giving. 1 Quote

The coach of Ainslie directly called up George Stone to make sure they took a close look but I reckon it is just a boring story of Taylor, Viney and co. doing their jobs well as to why he is at the club. 10 Quote
La Dee-vina Comedia 17,137 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 i think he will be something a real gem and brimming with natural football nous nothing timid or hestitant either who'd have thunk he came from canberra? DC, not everything that comes out of Canberra is a disappointment. The road to Yass is a good example. 2 Quote

Barney Rubble 1,576 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 He showed a lot on Saturday. Far more than a lot that have been in the system. His body is strong and mentally is as tough as anyone I have seen for a long time. The self confidence is great, but he has a fantastic confidence in a the team mates he has playing with him. He will get better and will lift the team confidence. 2 Quote

Come in off the line on the wing on numerous occasions! This man will play all 22 this year + a few more wity luck. Can take a pack mark snd could kick 20 goals. My new favourite! Quote
monoccular 17,760 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 (edited) Can someone explain how you get a surname with all lower case letters except a B somewhere in the middle?? Important issue I know... DeeGee - YOU are asking that? I thought that you would know the answer. monoCcular Rubbish. I looked it up and it said "truly awesome rookie footballer." LOL Didn't see him spray Cross, that's fascinating. Sounds like a competitive beast (like Hogan, Frost, etc.) Loving the mongrel Roos/Taylor has injected into us, exactly as a team dubbed the DEMONS should have! Other teams should dread playing us, knowing they'll end up bruised, battered and bleeding after two hours on the field with us. I seem to remember someone recently at the club talking up 'being the hardest team to play against'......did he speak too soon? He just ended Rohan Bails career. Bail certainly will have his work cut out to get in the team, but every team does need depth players apparently ldvc he's not really a canberran, somewhere (Ta....?) on nsw se coast near vic border, and originally born in wa but i take your point about yass - lol Tathra....on the coast at Bega, as I recall And I will have to use the Yass Road one on my friends from Canberra. Yes, vandenBerg certainly looks at this stage like a huge find. Balanced, strong, tall, intelligent. Hope he can keep it up once he is better known by oppositions. With this player coming out of contract out at years end i find It very hard to see him surviving if Vanders keeps playing like this.See what i did there Baghdad Bob?
