I had a look at WADA website and 2015 budget is $US27.m so about $AU35.

Not much really so I think Daisycutter' point as to whether WADA will pursue a 'local' game is really valid.

We can only hope that WADA see this as such a big test case, to avoid precedence being set on a 'no records' defence, that they will pursue it on principle.

If you want evidence of what ASADA thinks of any AFL Tribunal process, look no further than McDevitt's statement today:

"I am also aware that appealing any of these decisions within the AFL framework would ultimately serve only to delay consideration of these matters by the World Anti-Doping Agency."

I suspect the plan straight after the Decision was for WADA to appeal straight to the CAS and not waste time with ASADA appealing to the AFL's Appeals Tribunal where there would likely be more of the same.

CAS is used to applying the appropriate standards of proof for an anti doping case. The AFL Tribunal looks to have got this wrong. I'd be surprised if WADA don't appeal. Maybe the inability to force Charters and Alavi to give evidence leaves too big a hole for an appeal, otherwise I can't see them not appealing.

ASADA has sent the case file to WADA for independent review and said it would support an appeal to the CAS.

WADA has a further 21 days after Tuesday to lodge an appeal in front of a new Tribunal.

"ASADA will support any WADA-initiated appeal in relation to these matters," McDevitt said.

"In the interests of transparency, I would welcome the fullest possible release of the Tribunal’s findings and reasons on all of these matters."

Frustrating, but probably true given the media campaign and it being 'our young boys'. If the same level of evidence was public about the Chinese swimming team I'm sure the amount of compassion your mate speaks of would evaporate in a flash.

Reliable source from Europe with sports Law connections told me last week that WADA are very, very interested in this case!

How that translates into action after today's ASADA move remains to be seen but It's apparently well and truly on their radar!

Grace and ASC Chairman John Wylie "...both said the report had unfairly concentrated responsibility for problems in the sport on the current board".

Yes, this is the same John Wylie (mate of AFL Comm Chairman Fitzpatrick) who was asked to (quietly) negotiate with Ess and James Hird in Aug 2013. Is Wylie, head of the highest sporting body in Australia, now criticising his own staff's report, to support a mate (Grace who acted for Ess players)?

I now fear that even if we had a National Tribunal for hearing ASADA charges whether that would be independent, as it would probably come under the auspices of the ASC... Wylie, Grace, Fitzpatrick, EFC, AFL, ASC all inextricably networked.

Its all too incestuous for my liking...just hope WADA win at CAS.

In my experience talking to Essenscum supporters, your conversation is very similar but you left out the bit where "its the prosecutions duty to prove guilt.

Keep in mind WADA don't appeal to the AFL

You'd have to think they've had this in the wings waiting.

Even if it's true that WADA has a small budget, ASADA and its staff has a lot at stake here, so it is likely that ASADA will be keen to do some of the work in the case to CAS as well as handing over all that they have.

Can ASADA appear in the appeal? Anyone know what CAS actually does in such a case? Take evidence or just review the ASADA and 'defence' cases and the Tribunal decision?

My understanding its purely up to CAS as to who or what it listens to etc.

I'd think it hard to exclude ASADAS participation in anything WADA presents.
