Does Brayshaw play round 1?

Featured Replies

I was a bit bored with all the spouting about Brayshaw, I just hope he comes out and plays well, god help him if he doesn't, as we speak, along with Hogan, they are busy polishing their haloes as the latest saviours of this footy club

Saty, you get bored by other people's posts the way dogs get bored with bones.

So many depressing killjoys in this thread.. well a couple anyway

Now if youll excuse me I am off to get excited about an outstanding young footballer thats debuting for the MFC in 24 hours

Anyway Dr Phil John, now you have analysed my grasp of the vernacular, I said no opinion is wrong and then said Brayshaw could prove my opinion wrong, bit too left field for you then?, ah well.

I don't think he has done enough to warrant a spot, the footy department disagrees and they have the final say, so will be cheering for him tomorrow, ready to see my opinion proved incorrect

Sorry Saty, you need more than simple (simple-minded) contradiction to produce anything like humour.

Unless of course you want us to believe that every solecism, every absurdity in expression, every sentence of yours disappearing up its own fundament in all these threads is actually a brilliantly constructed and sustained act of comic genius. Why didn't you let us in on the joke before now?

Dr Phil, I understand, is a psychologist. Why you think he'd have any understanding of demotic expression that might be used as a comparative I have no idea ... whoops, of course, it was a joke, you're just pretending to look stupid and not making some shallow effort at sarcasm at all. Must pay attention.

Nor did you explain the first point in your chain of contradictions, but obviously that's just the prerogative of the true wit.

I order to answer the OP I say yes.

I would be surprised if Braysahw even rotates through the midfield, if he is the sub, they will sit him in the forward line

He'll get a run on the ball, but even if you were right, players likely to be confined to a forward type role are far more likely to be given a final spot on the interchange bench than a player, like Grimes, who is limited to a stopping/defensive role. Grimes is a hopeless midfielder and would be lost in the forward-line.

FMD!!! You've got me Dr!!!

It was Barthes who said "that the form does not suppress the meaning, it only impoverishes it".

Now please explain that to me as I've been wondering for years.

Let's concentrate on Angus Brayshaw and the footy folks. It's Easter, after all.

But you'll leave that post there WJ?

I'd love to BBO if I had the time although I haven't done a lecture on Barthes for years. Besides, if you can quote him and get to the end of the sentence with your thoughts intact I suspect you understand more than you're letting on.

Hmmm keep dodging - will Brayshaw have more of an impact than Grimes would have, simple question

Brayshaw is expected to have more of an impact than, Grimes, Jones, Mckenzie, Bail and all the others who haven't been given a game. He hasn't been given a game because he is an early draft pick, he has earnt his selection. You are making this more complicated than what it really is.

Why wouldn't he Stuie?

Posts were deleted to get back on the topic, yet for some reason these long winded personally directed rants by another moderator were left in tact. Strange...

I've seen Brayshaw play last year and this year at Casey. I'll say it now, the kid will start in the midfield and have an instant impact, he will go on and play 250 + Games and captain the side one day!

I hope I haven't put the mozz on him?

I do rate him highly!

For most of last season, Brayshaw was seen as the player most likely to be taken with our first pick and then along came the opportunity to select both Petracca and him with picks 2 & 3. He hasn't put a foot wrong in his pre season (apart from when he got the knock on his head and was concussed) and his three practice games were impeccable. During those games he did well in the midfield and in short stints up forward (when he kicked goals) and also down back. He fairly screamed out for senior selection when others who were in the NAB Challenge teams ahead of him squandered their opportunities. He warranted selection and I hope that like all true champions, he never looks back.

It's a salivating thought that in 12 months time, we will already have another player of equal or better calibre (Petracca) ready to step into the team and that's not to mention ANB and Billy Stretch. Like many, this is probably the one day in the year of greatest optimism for Demon fans.

Agree with all but the last sentence,WJ.

After the last few years I arrive at round 1 full of pessimism and trepidation.

And perhaps the smallest kernel of hope

Oh great. Any other club's supporters would be thrilled their no 3 pick was playing his first game for their team and look forward to him doing well. Look at the joy on Tiger supporters at the debut of McIntosh. On Land we have losers who expect him to fail, perhaps even hope for him to fail so that their pessimistic opinion is proven right. FMD...

Will be at the game tomorrow and can't wait to see him running around out there!

Where have you been the last seven years loonie?

Yeah, sure Saty, nothing to do with your slippery grasp on the English language.

Of course if it was 'meant to be funny' you'd be able to explain why but curiously you haven't bothered. Spell it out for us Saty so that all us dullards can have a good if belated laugh.

How very dare you! Only a mod could post like that to saty and not have it deleted. Lol.

Anyone notice how Brayshaw's debut has gotten much media attention. You hear about the likes of De Goey and Heeney but nothing from Brayshaw which i think is fantastic considering the media had always pumped our high draft picks ala Jack Watts etc.

I like it like this.

I think it's because we've been hearing about Hogan non stop for the last month! But yeah Angus has flown under the radar but being at Casey. I would've liked to have seen him in one of the NAB challenge games but he did so well at VFL level and others so poorly at AFL level that he's snuck in without fanfare.

So how come you aren't arguing the case for M. Jones, Bail, Michie or McKenzie? Why only Grimes?

Clearly Brayshaw, on form, is ahead of those guys and is selected based on that. We could also argue that Grimes and Brayshaw have different roles within the side, as I can't see Brayshaw playing on a HBF. So my initial mention of him getting a run ahead of Grimes was not the right comparison.

But we're missing the point here mate. We should be happy to see the kid get a run, as his form suggests that his selection is warranted, and we should be hoping that he has a positive impact on the game, which I think he will do.

I just picked Grimes as the 'best' example of the player who is missing out for Brayshaw, not sure how much their positions come into it, I doubt it made much difference in the selection.. but IF howe is playing HBF you can clearly argue that he is the one who pushed Grimes out.. if that is the case then yes, you can probably say Brayshaw took the spot of M.Jones (not Grimes).

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.

Following an injury-interrupted start to the season, McVee struggled to maintain the standard he established in 2025 as he pursued an expanded role within the team structure. He remained a firm fan favourite and the club had hoped to negotiate a new contract with the former rookie selection from Western Australia, whose partner, Lily Johnson, plays for Melbourne's AFLW side. Those hopes were dashed when he expressed his desire to return to his home state and play for Fremantle. Like all players who have worn the red and blue and are leaving this year, we wish him well in the future.
