Jack Trengove

While Roos did say that, what I think was missed, does not mean they want to trade every player. Simply any player can be traded as thats how the system works.

this means, open for business, make your best offers for our wares?

I think it's just taking the pressure off him, he knows he has the time to get it right now

From our point of view, we know he's a talent, a leader and great clubman, he's only 23 and clearly the medical reports on his recovery have been encouraging, it's not a huge investment and it has the potential to provide huge upside.

I trust the judgment of those with more informed opinions who have decided to back him

trenners is the sort to make mistakes by trying too hard, & training too much. conscientio

So happy for him.

He's a great kid and has always done the right thing by the club, even when the club did not do the right thing by him.

If anyone can come back from this, it's Trenners.

Nothing would make me happier than seeing him succeed in a Melbourne jumper.

Trengove will not play another senior game at MFC! IMO

Well, the club and the player both disagree with you, and you're clearly just puffing yourself up, so, ok then, carry on pigeon fence.

Great decision by the club. It appears incisive and calculated rather than emotional.

Trenners is a true footballer - i.e. he reads the game well, sees opportunities early and is a very good mark for his size. We are moving out of the era (not completely out yet) when we have to play athlete-only, or grunt-only players and we are now developing 25 - 28 players who can be played on any day and do more than "play a role". Surely Trenners fits into this 25 - 28 players above 3 or 4 others like Bail, M Jones etc...

If his foot stands up to the next pre-season I see him as a very valuable half-forward, but neither do I see his midfield days as being finished.

Also, listen to Petracca talk about his time with Jack below. Jack deserves a good chance at re-igniting his football career:

I was very impressed by this link for a number of reasons:

1) it shows the strong bonding and friendship developed between Petracca and Trengrove which will translate into a cohesive and strong midfield in 2016;

2) it is an example of the good culture of the MFC being instilled into our playing group. At the end of their careers, these guys will emerge as model citizens;

3) these guys (Petracca & Trengrove) are not going anywhere. They are committed to the MFC (as is Brayshaw and our other recent recruits)

  • 4 weeks later...

So I’ve been watching a few old games from 2010-2012 recently and I’d honestly forgotten what a good player Trengove was.
I guess my memory of him was clouded somewhat by the way he played in more recent seasons.

If he can get his foot right, and get back some of the pace that he lost (and yes, I realise both are big if’s) , is there any reason he couldn’t come back into the side refreshed, rejuvenated and “do a Brayshaw”?

He’s a good mark, he’s tough, reads the play well, is a great tackler, smart footballer… etc
All the potential in the world.

I saw in one of the threads someone say it’d be great to bring in another ready-made player next season in the mould of young Gus.

Maybe we already have him?

Pipe dream?

Agreed! Was such an exciting prospect in his first two years.

Jack, Petracca and the fella in charge of their rehab fitness program, post updates on Instagram quite regularly. They're both looking fit and strong; so fingers and toes crossed...

Determined young man

He was one of my favorites, injuries have cruled him. If he comes back it will be a much bigger come back story that Mitch Clark!. I love everything about this kid, just hopes some luck flips his way for a change.

Would be awesome if he returned and with some speed. A smart footballer who can play inside and out - Bradshaw reminds me a lot of a young Trengove.

Would love to see all those people who said he was done eat humble pie.

Anyone have a recent progress report on him? Mission has basically been saying "still the same" for 6 months.

Is he running? If not what kind of fitness base would he have through swimming or bike etc?

I believe they said he would be ready to go for preseason - still even if he does a full preseason we may not know what he is fully capable of until 2017.

Really want him to make it - same Toump. Happy that Petracca has someone of Trengoves calibre alongside him.

According to one article its about 5-6 weeks before he begins running.

Imagine the reception he will get if he comes back and plays next season!

Given he has been out so long you would think he would want to get several games under his belt first.

Can have a few games at VFL and return for a packed crowd at our Queens birthday match.

Those highlights alone don't do JT's ability justice.

True. I always thought that he could be our Bartel. In and under clean midfielder. Then push forward and be dangerous target because he was strong over head.

From all reports its so far so good for trenners, lets hope it stays that way! The club is being ultra cautious

So I’ve been watching a few old games from 2010-2012 recently

Sadist!

I do agree with the rest of your post though, if Trengove is able to get himself right and contribute as a forward flanker/mid in the coming years it will be a huge boost for our team.

There is a reason why Roos and co. were keen to keep him around for another year.

He has a great opportunity to win a place in this midfield - it is still quite shallow, it's getting deeper but who are we kidding? We still need more than Jones, Vince, Viney, Tyson, Brayshaw and vanders. And he also has experience on his side - which will be a point of difference for all the other talent we have that are just starting out.

I was sure he would look to leave a club that tried to trade him last year but it is a measure of the bloke really that he wants to stick around and fight to play for the Demons.

Agree rpfc. he is a guy of great character. That's why he is worth persevering with.

There's also a reason why Richmond were willing to give up pick 12 to get him despite his already long lay-off.

In a side with plenty of pace elsewhere, I think he will flourish.

Also bearing in mind the last few seasons we saw him play weren't indicative of his true pace, imo.

Hope he can play again. Would give our midfield an extra bit of class. I see him as a better skilled Daniel Cross.

If Jack and Christian get fit and firing for Round 1 2016, plus another draftee then we're very solid in the middle and flanks. As Sunday showed if your midfield fires then anything is possible in 2016.

Trenners deserves the luck of the Gods given his journey to date... Fingers Crossed.

Trenners making a full recovery and contributing could really help us push for finals next year. Classy player.

What a moment it would be when he runs out in The Red and Blue again.

Sends chills down my spinee just thinking about it. Please universe, let Trenners get back to playing footy!

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
