Training - Monday, 9th March, 2015

If you think it was a shambles, which is your choice, then make sure you express this opinion to the Club, everybody who was unhappy with the situation should

Don't worry I already have. The following email sent earlier today.

To whom it may concern

May I suggest that when you publish a start time of 12:00 for a open training session you stick to it.Today I sat and waited for nearly an hour and a half for the main training session to begin.Yes you updated the start time on twitter at 11:00am but I and I assume many others were already in transit by then. I watched supporters turn away and leave before the main session began, including many families with small children .This is not rocket science. It is time this organisation started to treat itโ€™s supporters with some respect instead of the contempt that we are all too frequently served up. You plead for 35K signed members before round one, yet offered up todays effort. Seriously unprofessional MFC.

Yours Sincerely

ย

Mark Stevens just tweeted Hogan was training indoors as he has pulled up sore.. might not play this week.

It was on the news as well, I think people tend to forget this was his first serious hit out in over a year, the last thing we want is to break him again, I reckon if Newton's eye is not better he will be 'rested' as well

It was clearly advertised that the open training session started at 12:00. We arrived 15 minutes early to get a snag and watch the boys train for an hour or so.

By 1:30 they were just getting their jumpers on for a warm up.

We had to get our car from a two hour spot some walk away so we left.

A family next to us with four boys did the same.

This is why we have been on the bottom of the ladder these last years.

This would not have happened at Hawthorn, that's why they are on the top!!!

Yeah... nah.

Asked one of the trainers about Hogan. He said he had stayed over in Perth for a few days and only flew in this morning. So no need to hit the panic button yet!

Hogan was training indoors today??

Either trainer had no idea or something fishy is going on again...

I don't think it is unreasonable to suggest that it is best if those personally affected complain to the club. If others do, there is a tendency to dismiss them as serial complainers. Probably a foolish tendency, but nevertheless true in many organizations.

In any case, I trust that the club issues an apology and an explanation.

Yes those personally affected should contact the club and let them know how they were affected, but I think that you will find that the real issue is not just today's effort... it is symptomatic of the MFC's poor public relations over a long period of time.

Machsy,

Lack of professionalism is a huge reason we have performed so poorly as a club for so long.

It also costs us supporters

Maybe.

But that post I quoted is still a massive stretch.

ย

Some of the injured guys should probably have come out to mingle with the kids .

But we will let the club do the talking on the field from now on.

If that is the focus then they must get it right because the merch thing and the pr is sloppy.

If I was trying to drags kids into the insanity of being a demon fan,I would be peeved also.

They have a chance to show something on the ground and they had better take it.

The admin will come up with a lame excuse for this on the website but I would be making some demands on the club for something to show the children somebody GAF about the members and prospective members.

Hogan was training indoors today??

Either trainer had no idea or something fishy is going on again...

If he was training indoors Biffen makes a good point he should at least have made an appearance on the side lines for the kids! I assumed from the trainers comments that he had the day off.

Theres a bit about today that might have been done differently. ..had only the club THOUGHT it all through !!

But they didnt. Welcome back 2012

I know this has been asked before but please humour me. I have some photo's from todays late session which I would like to post. Any suggestions for the best way to post these so members can have a look??

You can upload photos for free on imgur.com

Yeah Older demon imgur.com is a great site. First you will need to open an account, it's free and pretty easy to setup. Then upload your photos to imgur, keep in mind the size of the images. Next you can do one of two things, you can post a link to the imgur gallery, or you can attach the individual images URL via the image button on the menu bar on the post window. Good luck.

And on Foxtel.

Someone is speaking shitz and I hope for ours and hogans sake it ain't the club.

Biggest + for me was the enthusiasm of the new recruits,Brayshaw is hypo, the Prince was intense, another Stretch on the team, even Petracca there on the sidelines keeping interested with a smile on his face.

Thanks for the input from training today, but I must wright your rong

Be careful with hyper and hypo.

These two prefixes are easily confused as they sound so similar but they have, in fact, more-or-less opposite meanings.

Hyper- means over, excessive, more than normal, as in such words as hyperbole (extravagant and obvious exaggeration) and hyperactive (abnormally or pathologically active). The prefix derives from the Greek word hyper, meaning simply over.

Hypo-, on the other hand, means under, defective or inadequate, as in such words as hypodermic (under the skin) or hypoallergenic (specially formulated to minimize the risk of an allergic reaction). This, too, derives from the Greek : hypo, meaning under.

In whatever context youโ€™re using hyper- and hypo- words, it makes sense to be very clear about which prefix is the correct one to use.

Sorry, but couldn't help myself! :)

Can you please explain this in Latin roots?

Maybe.

But that post I quoted is still a massive stretch.

It was only a stretch when he insinuated that's why Hawthorn are at the top. Delaying trainings doesn't stop premierships but it does show the gulf between the best and worst run clubs.

On today's training, the delay of precedings wouldn't particularly phase me, but the sad part is the stories of kids leaving disappointed. There are excuses for the reasons behind delaying the event, but there are no excuses for not sending out an official or player to get around the youngsters who made the trip out early.

If Hogan wasn't training today, send him out with a pen for 30 minutes with Petracca and set up a photo table from 12.15-12.45 to pass the time. At absolute worst, the lack of a senior official not making themselves available down there to explain the delay is beyond reasoning.

Either way, as a football team, good results will always override bad PR and I'm hoping this year that will be the case. Training seemed to be reasonable and I'm excited of the progress of VDB, Newton and some of the younger guys. Pretty excited to see how we go against a Bulldogs side whom I feel we should match up with strongly against this weekend.

Can you please explain this in Latin roots?

I think it is more Greek than Latin. As in sodium hypochlorite solution, a disinfectant. Sorry I have wandered into chemistry by mistake!

Oh I forgot to mention that while I was watching the preliminaries today, the Vince and Howe show, for an hour or more we did have Alex Neal Bullen, ABN for the first 30 minutes. He looks a likely type but just did some rapid handball exercises, some sprints and then headed off for the rooms. Obviously the dislocated knee is being handled very carefully.

OK so here goes on imgur.com search for "MFC training 9/3/15" and I hope you can see the photos from training today, many thanks for the advice and let me know if it works.

My first time at a Demons training session - I took my five year old, who is so one-eyed he would've waited another hour! I was struck immediately by the change in physique of some of the players, as noted by other contributors. I thought Jamar looked about 4 or 5 years younger, whilst Dawes looked really good - the puppy fat has all gone. Jack Watts is another that has undergone a transformation - boy to man. I enjoyed the drills - I thought the intensity was spot on, although you can now see a difference between the new recruits of the Roos era and the old guard. I think we'll still be carrying one or two this year, but the competition for places is going to hot up. As the guy next to me said - there are going to be some disappointed lads come Round 1, which is something we haven't seen for some time.

A quick note on the PR front - the wait didn't bother me too much, but it should have been announced on the ground. A previous poster has asked whether there was a skeleton staff because of the holiday - they still should've had someone on the ground running things, as it was a flagged event. Likewise, I think they missed the boat with merchandise etc., but maybe had their sights set on next weekend's Family Day.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturdayโ€™s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFLโ€™s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterdayโ€™s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown andย  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
