FAREWELL JEREMY HOWE

Not particularly enamoured with the club for trying to trade him to GWS for the Boyd pick last year.

He's gone.

Didn't GWS come to us with the proposal, but there wasn't enough time for us to properly consider it? That was certainly Mahoney's side of the story.

I think he's gone too. It's a shame because he's a B-grade utility and they don't grow on trees.

The TV still goes berko when he takes a screamer, but the fans are less impressed because we know he only has a moderate impact on games. He's worth his place in the 22, but that's about all.

I honestly can't tell if that's sarcasm or not but I hope it is.

B grade utilities seem to be one of the more bountiful things that grow on trees.

Rumour was we asked his manager after the request came in from GWS, Jeremy said no to GWS, but asked 'what about Collingwood'?

Perhaps I should rephrase it then. Someone that can play key forward and back competently, 25 y/o and 100 games experience isn't someone that you should be happy about losing.

We'll manage, but I'd rather he stayed.

$600k for.. Howe? Hahahaha... What's that, $100k for every decent game he plays per year and $25k per speccy?

Fair dinkum, expected a little more common sense from Jeremy.

Isn't that how much we are paying Lumumba? I'd take Howe five times over at that price before Lumumba.

This is a good point.

When we attract average players from other clubs and pay them over and above what our own home grown stars are worth ,such as Howe.

I would rate Howe twice the player Lumumba is.

The agenda should be to keep our own good talent, not trade them for average talent or picks where you don't know what you are going to get.

Yes.

If Prestia made a full recovery I'd be laughing. Prestia is a much better player and much more important player (i.e. play making midfielder) than Howe.

I don't really want to lose both Garland and Howe though add i feel that will be disruptive to the backline.

If Frost plays back? We still don't know what he's capable of but he had potential.

Jetta Dunn Frost

Salem Tmac (MID - not grimes)

Id rather keep him then Garland.

Fair point but as we've all said...at the right price. We're just getting over the Dawes and Grimes contracts.

Hope he stays....good players are hard to find and we're not a position list wise to lose 25 yo 100 gamers in their prime. He could improve his consistency a fair bit in his next 100 games of footy as well.

I am all for keeping your best players but is Howe one of those?

I know he draws crowds - wait till the kids all talk about Hogan at school the way they talked about Franklin - he will get the crowds in.

But if I picking that forward line he is 4th or 5th picked and struggles to make a first choice backline.

If he gets you something you need and he can be replaced.

Since moving to the backline, Howe has offered more than just being a crowd-pleaser, albeit inconsistently. As DD said, I'd prefer him to stay than Garland, but unfortunately that's not likely to happen.

My mail is the same as Chook's. Howe is really disappointed that Roos was basically trying to pack his bags for him throughout trade-week last year. When the special offer did come from GWS and the Dees tried to get it done on the final day, Howe was disappointed and almost offended that he had 3-4 hours to consider his football career.

Let's just hope there is plenty of interest and we can play a few clubs off for a good pick.

Fair enough if true. We still took a punt on him at pick 33, although from memory Collingwood was also interested at the time forcing us to take him higher that we might otherwise have. Would be a shame to lose a home-grown talent, but based on his last couple of years we can survive without him and have enough young talents to get people through the gates methinks. Hate the thought of him at the filth though!

550k would be the most I'd be willing to pay to keep him, some might say that is even generous, but as mentioned above - he does bring a marketing component to the table. Outside of that, I'd be prepared to trade Howe, obviously for the right trade.

Nothing used to make me want to prove a point more than when a presumptive judgement was made about me.

Like when you used to play against your old side or your girlfriend was watching.

Doesn't seem to have worked in this case though.

Girlfriend watching? You may need to come up with a different example to register your point here.

I think it would be a shame if he left, as frustrating as he can be at times he is a classy player and we don't have many of those.

One trick pony! couldn't be bothered either way!

Id certainly be open to paying him the 500k, his best footy is well worth that just needs consistency
