FAREWELL JEREMY HOWE

What

Dont agree with that.

I think he has been offered a contract that is in line with his performance, and what the club deems to be fair market value based on that.

A dozen speccies a year does not a $500,000+ player make!

(or whatever ridiculous amount he was asking)

Those figures were never right. Collingwood are offering him $400K.

I suspect we were south of $300K - certainly no more than $300K.

Happy to disagree.

See Howe said he battled to produce his best at a struggling club - not bad seeing the Dees beat the Pies last time - absolutely screw Collingwood for all MFC can get.

(so cheesed off seeing Frawley get a Premiership medal tho I know the compensation was O K)

Equalisation is dead (as it always has been) as (some) players will go to the stronger clubs for a bit less. Not that Howe will get a Premiership medal at Collwood.

In the last 15 years the NRL with 16 teams have had eleven different Premiers with no club winning consecutive flags. Contrast the AFL with 18 teams and only 7 different Premiers in the last 15 years with 2 "threepeats" and maybe a "fourpeat" coming up!! (and the Cats 3 in 5 years). Clearly the NRL have a better system.

Surely he is worth more than average AFL wage...

I'd say we offered 350x3

Now....I know this is rogue....I know it's left field , radical and somewhat nouveau in thinking, but I just have this odd idea that Jeremy is, well how does one say this , Full of Shlt !!

The people getting all their panties in a twist over Howe declaring a club he'd like to get traded to after receiving offers from us, north, subs and pies.

Ours is the worst offer I'm sure.

Players have always chosen when demand is their. This is never going to change, you would think we were losing Jones or Hogan the way people are up in arms.

I think it's more about the way Howe and his manager have handled it and what we can potentially get back rather than what we're losing.

Sorry Jeremy, but you obviously didn't see too many pies games after the bye.

Why don't we offer to pay an extra $100-200,000 of Howe's wage on top of GC's offer if he goes to GC? If we replace him with a kid, we won't be using more salary cap space anyway.

A bit out there but why not?

Reminds me too much of the Woey trade.

I like your thinking.

Maybe not necessary though. Nice to have it there kept up our sleeve as a last resort.

I believe the MFC hold all the cards not Mister Howe. The reason we own him until 31-10-15.

We should get together with mister Howe and agent TODAY and tell him the facts of life. Place on the table both CFC and suns deals and compare them against one another.

If they are similar for the MFC then it dosnt matter where he goes. If the suns deal is better, then Gold coast here you come. If Mister Howe wont go to the Suns then explain to him and his manager the options.

A. Go to the suns, deal done.

B. Don't go to suns then.... go in the ND and proberly get picked up by anybody other than CFC as they wont have any first round picks if possible trades go thru.

.... go in the PSD and as we have an earlier pick than CFC hello HOWEE WE WILL REDRAFT YOU.

.... sit out of football for a year, think about it, no money,a year older and you still have to come back via the draft.

It's got nothing to do with whether I rate him or not, that is irrelevant in the context of what I am talking about.

The fact is we held all the cards & pulled the trigger on the deal & buckled to Essendons demands when we possibly could have waited to see how the other trades panned out. Now we don't have pick 25 to use in any other trades & Essendon potentially have it over us when trying to get pick 8 from GWS. Draft picks can be over rated I agree, but this isn't just about picks it is about jostling for the best position in the trade period. There were numerous other options possibly available to us with time to try & get other deals done. We could have done this trade for Melksham with 1 hour or less to go in the trade period.

1 week in and the only club that has come out in front so far is Geelong.

17 other clubs are all neutral.

Other then Dangerfield, no A grade midfielder has been mooted as available. For one to appear out of nowhere is a little optimistic.

This is my flavour of thought. I do like it.......however

Alas I dont know we'd 1) do it ...or 2) that it would have desired result

Bit of a game of blink though.

The rub to it al ls how quickly do we need this to move in order to do other deals ?

Are you serious?

White can't hit the side of a barn shed.

A truly awful set shot for goal. Arguably worse than Cloke, and that's saying something.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
