I think a lot of the people who just look in, then move on, would be checking for any interesting fragments of information and training reports.

But seriously, with the snarky, surly, personal tone that so many threads here degenerate into, it's not exactly a surprise that people think "Nah, I'm not going to get into that."

I'd endorse a 'mod rule' that authorised a simple blanking/deleting of any comment that includes sniping lines like "Where you even at the same game? / You clearly have no idea about football / what would you know / only an idiot would" and so on. People would be perfectly welcome to repost their point, of course.

In fact, a brief period of summertime enforcement would reset the tone quickly, ready to welcome passing strangers as the season gets closer.

All that said, things do improve this time of year, everyone is in a better mood after the draft!

If thats the case Saty wouldn't last a day here

The old "I know the players better then anyone here because I speak to them 24/7" should do the job

agree LG. carrot & stick

too many are rivalrous against our own, & instead of a good humored response to something they think 'weak' or 'below the standard', they get terse or demeaning.

maybe this is a part of why we don't have more supporters & members generally... I don't know, But maybe there is an arrogance surrounding the RednBlue that stinks it up & puts many Off us ????

Just responding to the snakes and rabbits critique;

Have you seen what the snakes did to Guam?

Now there's spiders everywhere too.

Ugly feeds ugly.

And belligerence is ugly. Save it for those who aren't on your side.

This place is fine, I really think some of you are spoilt - go and have a look at Bigfooty or any other sports related forum - this place is a beacon compared to those places.

Bigfooty is often far superior to Demonland, just gotta know.Where to look and which posters (or team supporters) to ignore which you get used to very quickly.

Posted

How to attract members in two steps:

  • Advertise. Get members to wear demonland caps to games or something.
  • Stop the trolling BS. The mods need to do their jobs and keep threads on track. Every thread I read winds up being derailed by the same few posters reenacting the same tired arguments.
You'd be amazed how much these two things would do to improve the place.

I'd also add - stop the irrelevant by play between posters where every other thread descends into waffle about Romsey, the Gatt, S&M, llamas or whatever else.

Don't care about Bigfooty and

Where do you people find the time?

The mods do their jobs; then they try and enforce the rules in their spare time. As far as jobs go, Demonland pays pretty poorly and is therefore prioritised as such.

I've said for a while that I reckon we're undermoderated at present. To my knowledge there's only one active mod (Grapeviney) with cameos from me, WJ and Andy. We need a few 21 year olds with a good grasp on the rules, with nothing better to do but delete thread hijacks all day long. Yes, I'm describing myself 10 years ago.

As to the OP - I don't think we're found wanting for active members during the season. I don't think it comes as a surprise that nobody wants to log in and talk about stuff when the club is on Christmas holidays.

How many paid up members does Demonland have?

A number of years ago I remember seeing the various footy sites ranked in terms of popularity. By memory the AFL site was clearly number one, bigfooty and then some of the larger clubs official sites and then Demonland came in around 8th ish. It was easily first in terms of unofficial supporter sites. Demonology was also on the list. I remember thinking that we are certainly a passionate bunch

The obvious answer to this question is to produce a nude calendar .

As it is early in the new year, we need to act fast.

You disappoint me Dr. I considered you rather broad minded and yet you churn out a sadly sanctimonious post. I actually doubt if "every other thread descends into waffle" and .... in any event, waffle has generally been superior to discussion of football in recent times. Some members like my shite ... some don't. If the Mods pizz me off that's fine ... if they don't , put me on ignore.

However I would have appreciated you confronting me directly with your concerns. Had you done so, I would have happily (and rationally) responded with my point of view.

To be honest, some of the more left field kind of stuff about S&M, llamas and the Gatwick have been a welcome distraction from the absolute dross we have had to focus on on the field. Without some jokes on here, the sniping and negativity would have gone into overdrive.

No doubt Rhino loved to cross the line which upset people, but he also gave this site a lot of his time - more than most others have. Our jobs got harder when he went and I personally have a lot of respect for him.

It isn't a good time to be sampling members vs guests - it is the off/off season where nothing of real interest is happening, world's best bikini aside. Have another look after a win or contraversy during the playing season.

Yeah,I will give it a crack.

We'll get more members when we start winning more games.

There is no place like Demonland after a win, we just don't win very often.

I think the mods do a good job, although I'd like to see Demonland even less regulated.

To be honest it doesn't always bother me and sometimes I find it amusing, however other times it can be frustrating when I'm trying to read about footy and theres all these off topic posts. I end up just skimming over them anyway however the OP was asking how we could attract more members to the forum and I was providing an example of what might turn people off engaging. It is nowhere near as bad as the sniping and belittling that goes on here though.

Sorry if I offended but again was offering an opinion on what might deter some from participating in the forum.

Nearly 1500 views in under two days isn't bad and l guess confirms your statement. Edited by CBDees

I think it's easy to skim over stuff you don't want to read for whatever reason. Most members have other posters whose content they like, perhaps Saty for training (!) or WJ for his feature articles or others who have links with interesting sources. Sane people will also have numerous posters on ignore, I'm sure I'm on a few. I dislike the "if you don't like what I say the don't read it" mentality of some, but IMO it's not hard to skim over what doesn't appeal rather than let it get to you. This place would be pretty sterile if we eliminated all humour, sidetracks, slap downs, giffs, etc, particularly in the off season. Anyway, there will be more members log in once the season starts and we get a couple of wins on the board.

My New Years resolution is to minimise personal and negative comments towards other posters. Except towards BBO, because he's a right [censored].
