I don't believe the players signed waivers for TB4, rather they signed it for Thymosin. This could then be argued that they looked into this and discovered that there was a legal version, which they were informed was what they were receiving, and can then lead to the conclusion ‘that they were duped’. The doctor could argue that he was only asked to verify the legality of Thymosin, not TB4, which allows him to keep his integrity. Players and doctor could all therefore reasonably state they had no idea that TB4 was even in play because it was being referred to as Thymosin (medically) and "the good stuff" (slang). Guilty would still have to be the verdict, as clubs, coaches, organisations, teams, anyone would use this example of ‘innocence by misinformation’ as the blueprint for future systematic drug programs. Still the players may get some respite due to the "duping" argument, but the consequence of this would then have to flow on to Essendon - penalties for the drugs will have to be enforced on someone (note Dank was an employee, therefore representative of Essendon).

I would like to think, the club would have sat all the players down in a room, Doc reid would have explained to them exactly what they were going to be injected with, told them he had assurances that all of the substances were above board and there would be no lingering health issues associated with them, and explain exactly what benefit they see these injections providing.

clearly either none of that has happened or they have lied to the players. either way i'd suggest the club doctor is responsible.

Yes I was being dramatic. But if the players successfully argued that they were duped it could only be by Essendon and their agents. If that is the case rule 8 still applies and the club must be penalised, plus litigation opens up from the players against the club. Either way rule 8 will kill Essendon in my opinion.

I can see Essendon being dissolved and a new legal entity being created in its place, The Bombers Football Club for instance.

What about the 34 injectors football club. With the team moto, whatever we can take!

What I was responding to was the "what if" scenario of the players getting off because they were "duped" and didn't know what they were being given.

It was more a comment directed to those who are so adamant that the players will go down.

By the way what age group is your son in at Newtown, my son is U17's at Easts Bulldogs but finished last season with a Premiership. Been involved their coaching etc for nearly 10yrs.

Easts Bulldogs are a very good team (my son played against their U11's team in his first season). My son is in the U13's this year... not sure if they'll be up against your lot (they weren't last year in the U12's). His team were runners up last year against Cronulla in a very close game, so we're hoping to go one better this year.

Easts Bulldogs are a very good team (my son played against their U11's team in his first season). Any arguments over team bonding,teams sticking together to get better for the next season didn't make them sign. WHY?

Did they check? Are they scared of needles? Nearly 20% scared of needles. Team mates talk amongst themselves over a great many topics, this would have been one of them. Did the new players ask Fletcher if in all his years he had signed waivers before.

OD, they were the team I chose to follow when I first arrived in Sydney in 1979... was not much later that they folded. I then followed North Sydney who folded, then Souths who folded (but were miraculously resurrected and won the GF last year). I am officially the kiss of death!

And surprisingly all 8 are still at the club? What does that mean? Of the 34 that did sign the waiver half have gone!

Edit:- If you do as Hirdy says you have a 50% chance of getting out. Don't follow Hirdy and 100% chance of staying. That augers well for the future.
