Finally the Melbourne Football Club have anothet truly classy midfielder, apart from N Jonesthat we can be excited about for the medium term.

Let's recap his 2014- essentially his second season of AFL.

11 brownlow votes.

3 votes v's Port in Alice

3 votes v's Port at Adelaide oval

3 votes v's North at Etihad.

1 vote v Bulldogs at mcg

1 vote vs Richmond at MCG

16 goals for the season- our 2nd leading goal kicker.

20 + disposals in most games

Plenty of clutch last qtr goals - particularly in Adelaide.

Just a good, fair inside clearance machine that's a beautiful finisher of the footy.

- and this off a restricted pre season.

What are your thoughts about Tyson for 2015?

Sylvia had lots of restricted pre-seasons.........I thought that stuffed you for the whole year. The golden ticket when you didn't have to perform. 10 yrs running......

Tyson is a super hero :)

Outside chance for the leadership group.

Really important player for the club.

I reckon let him focus on his footy. He's had a great first season, already one of my favourites, but let's see him back it up in his second year with us.

I challenge anyone to name any player in the comp who is more effective with just 35 games to his name. The more times I replay the replays of 2014, the more I appreciate how good he is, and how good he might become. In that game against Port he was on the wing with 80 seconds to go, unfortunately Grimes missed him and put it on the full - had he not, I reckon DT would have setup a play and won us that game. I said the other day that given our disastrous history of players 'not going on with it' I am tempering my excitement - but it is a difficult thing to do. His best asset is the ability to win clearances and find the goals under extreme pressure, might finish his career inside 50 ala Yze and Green

don't know why being good equates to being in the LG for some

two completely different things

Well I think Roos nailed that draft. I think Salem alone will have a better career than Kelly - and I think Salem will be the only one in that draft to better Kelly.

To get Tyson on top of that is a pure stroke of genius. We've been fairly lucky in recent years with our drafting, Viney, Stretch, dodging the bullet with Scully - in turn picking up Jesse.

Hopefully we can add McDonald and ANB to this, both look exceptional pick ups.

On Dom Tyson, based on performance alone I can't remember a young prospect showing as much.

The good thing about the Dom Tyson trade is that now Tyson has the points on the board - and Salem has the attributes to be a MFC ATG (matter of time).

So we'll win that trade even if Josh Kelly reaches Chris Judd status. I think that both Tyson/Salem will be top 5 players at our club over the next decade.

A high profile Lander has predicted he will be one of the top 5 players in the league by the conclusion of 2015. I don't think he will reach those heights, but 2015 could be a big year for him considering he is exactly one year younger than Heppell who went alright this year.

He has the mark of the great players in that he creates time and space for himself where others can't. He is the type of player you pay money to go aand watch which for our club is invaluable. He is central to our plans going forward.

I recall his stats were shown after xx games (i think 30, happy to be corrcted) against the current top mids as a comparison (Ablett, Pends, Selwood etc). He was ranking above or close to number 1 in virtually every category (kicks, hand balls, marks etc) after the same number if games. A gem, looking forward to 2015 from him and beyond.

Ollie Wines, Joel Selwood, Jeremy Cameron, Chris Judd..

I can go on if you like.

I agree with this.

That said, he would've been elevated to Captain by now under Mark Neeld.

fail

In fairness - Cameron went off the boil this season ( mainly because of injury). His first two seasons which totalled 35 games were very very good

As it turns out, pick 2 for Tyson would've sufficed.

Getting Salem was icing on the cake.

Having said that Kelly will be better Salem.

If Salem proves to be a good footballer then what does it matter - Roos called the trade a win/win.

Again if Salem proves to be a good footballer then we got exactly what we need - the injection of two good footballers into our club instead of one.

Tyson and Salem will prove to be a brilliant trade of pick 2 IMO.

Clearly we valued pick 2 higher this year.

I don't think so, We just couldn't get a trade done.

There is alot of Simon Black about the way that Tyson plays!

Lets hope he finishes up with the same amount of accolades!

We didn't get Tyson and pick 9 for pick 2. We also threw in pick 20 which, based on an article recently where Melbourne told the AFL Lewis Taylor was a backup for pick 9, we clearly would have used on Lewis Taylor if we'd retained pick 20.

Tyson is a gem and I am really happy with the trade, but the constant talk about how we've cleaned up turning pick 2 into Tyson and Salem is wrong.

Let's not care how we got there, let's just appreciate the destination.

This is some tropical paradise through my eyes.

We cleaned up for one reason and one reason alone ( disclaimer - I am basing this purely on Tysons one season with us and the confidence/hope that his form will continue).

We swapped a very high draft pick for a player who in his very first season played for us like a very high draft pick. In my mind that is cleaning up. Giving away 20,and 72 and getting Salem and 53 is yet to play out.

It doesn't. But as it was said earlier he kicked clutch goes, finds his own ball inside and outside, and has the skills to lead by example.

I think he's got a long and prosperous career at Melbourne and I see no reason to put it on him at this stage since he's only been here a year. But he has all the attributes to be considered for the future.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
