Hmm, raw numbers are tricky because of the variation in possible number of games played as well. So let's assume 22 games for everyone, if you like you can turn it into an average per game.

Main goalkickers -

Hogan, Garlett, 30-40 each..

Other forwards -

Dawes, Pederson, Petracca,Kenendy-Harris, 20-30 each.

Goalkicking mids/utilities -

Tyson, Howe, Watts, Salem, Kent, Vince, 10-20 each.

Resting ruckmen -

Jamar and Gawn - 10-20 each.

There are of course a variety of other possibilities, like Frost playing forward, Fitzpatrick finding form. I'm also making some assumptions about the flexible utility roles of Watts and Howe. It should be interesting seeing how it pans out - whatever the details we are likely to have a very even spread of goalkickers and a particularly high proportion of goals from players in the midfield or rotating forward/midfield.

We should, at least, make it past the miserable 8.6 goals a game we managed in 2014. [shudder]

Whoever kicks the goals I want to see the team start to settle down. I was under the impression Frost was recruited as a key back, if that's the case leave him bloody down there. Find a spot a Howe, my preference is forward, where ever it is leave him there. We will have a number of new "best 22" this year. Let the team settle and hopefully through consistency and familiarity we will start to see improvement.

I would have thought key forwards should aim for 1 goal per qtr.

Wowee the ecpectations on Hesse Hogan are immense! Sure he is an impressive kid with some impressive attributes but he hasn't played an AFL game and hasn't played at any level for more than a year. If he exceeds Frawley's overall 2014 output that would be a good result... Maybe 20ish goals for the season. Dawes, Garlett and Watts should also all be around that mark.

I suspect Hogan should be a big improver into 2016 with some game time under his belt.

I don't expect Hogan to kick 80 this year but it can't hurt to set yourself targets. Run out with the mindset one straight kick on goal a quarter.

Aim to win the clearance/stoppage first but it we don't everyone's attention should turn to chasing/tackling/defending. Obviously all games play out differently but with the amount of numbers around the ball at stoppages the opportunitys are there. Some of our players need to set themselves the goal firstly of laying an effective tackle, then move onto racking up numbers. Winning the tackle count doesn't mean youve lost the game. In some games this year Jones went head to head against opposition gun players, whilst his tackle numbers varied he did damage going the other way. I think largely over recent years our taggers have failed to carry out their job. There is room for improvement from the whole list. No there probably isn't a set number in terms of position, I see it more as an individual thing as we strive to become better. It should start with aiming to get pb's during the pre season.

I agree that on paper we'll have what looks to be a more effective and potent forward-line compared to what we had running around this year.

But the number of goals our side kicks will be determined by our inside 50 count. We need to double our 2014 inside 50 count average if y'all want to see the kinds of results you're predicting.

And that's subject to how much improvement we see from our midfield and halfback-lline. Ball movement, contested and uncontested possession count, ability to hit targets regularly. We need to see a major improvement in all those areas. Which will then see an increase in our inside 50 count. Which will then result in more opportunities for our forwards. Which will hopefully bring more goals.

I think it will be hard for anyone to top Garlett.

Garlett's best seasons came at Carlton when second string behind Betts. So I think he'll struggle to reproduce 40 goal seasons in our side. He's also got to get back to some kind of form. He looks fast and skillful at training, but isn't the fittest and has never been the hardest. So I'm not setting the bar high on him until he proves he's still an AFL player.

Not that I think Dawes or Hogan will kick more than him. Kent's the other who should kick a few. 12 goals in 13 games including time as the sub last year. He should be on track for 20 games, 20 goals this year.

If one of them can kick 30 goals and all of them at least 20 plus from the group of Hogan, Dawes, Garlett and Kent then at least we have some consistency and something to build a forward line around. Ideally one more of Salem, Petracca, JKH, Fitzpatrick or Pedersen could do the same.

5 forwards kicking 30-35+ is what a modern forward line needs. It doesn't matter if the top guy kicks 80, 50 or even 40.

So I set the bar at 4 guys kicking 20 goals each.

Roos's game plan isn't about kicking goals it's about stoping them so I can't really see the goal telly changing much.

Clarke to be Geelong's leading goalkicker and our lowest goal tally to be against Hawthorn with Frawley as Fullback!
