WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - ALEX NEAL-BULLEN

Featured Replies

Agree, I like that we got value back from the ND23 trade too by using those picks.

I don't like it when we lose value in trades by not using picks returned in a trade.

It's quite a haul for ND23 now by the looks of those that fell to 40 and 53...

Fair call, absolutely agree. I was bothered we slided 23 to GWS for Frost.

But to get back Neal-Bullen and McDonald - on top of Frost - is an excellent result.

I think that result would be above and beyond what our recruiting staff would've imagined when we parted with 23.

If reports are true we got one of the players we were considering at 23 (Neal-Bullen) with the bonus of Frost and Oscar.

Brilliant recruiting or pure fluke?

matters not how....just that :)

Mfc rated Alex a late first rounder.. awesome result

how did you know?

Recognised as a super-professional like his great mate and former Tigers teammate Billy Stretch, who is headed to Melbourne as a father-son pick, Neal-Bullen won more clearances than any other player at this year’s national under-18 championships, averaging five a game.

How did he slip to 40 again?

He looks the goods, doesn't he?

Of course, Melbourne does tend to do its best work in October and November...here's hoping that the four mids we've picked up this draft are ALL future long term players for our best 22, and part of or much elusive next premiership...or six!

Navicular foot fracture would be in the back of some recruiters minds.

Seriously? When was the injury?

When he was 16

Fingers crossed he's one of the lucky ones that doesn't have further problems.

Hope they managed him better than we managed JT.

I'm nominating him as my smokey to succeed this year.

Chief sitting Bull = Chief Kneeling Bull = Chief Neal Bullen

I'm calling him "The Chief"

Footy tragic = Yes

Too much time on my hands?

Well it is the weekend.

From Inside Football:

"Alex is probably the pick of our bunch at Glenelg. Played half a dozen senior games as an inside midfielder after having an outstanding carnival and I was surprised he didn't get All Australian. I'd expect him to go in the first 25 picks. He's a bit Pendlebury-like because he's not blessed with pace but his ability to get out of traffic and use the ball is outstanding. Had 25 possessions in one game at senior level and is just a great character kid in terms of maturity."

- Glenelg football manager Matt Lokan

Was convinced he was going early, bit giddy that he made it through to us. So much so I completely forgot about Oscar McDonald until I saw his name pop up at 53. Never felt this comfortable post draft about all of our picks.

Common theme amoung Alex, Angus and christian

All love to tackle, and tackle with purpose

I think I'm more excited with this pick to be honest, I think he can be a Luke Ball type player who will just be there all day making those around him a much better player.

Hope they managed him better than we managed JT.

Speaking of... As if getting back into our team wasn't going to be hard enough for him. Nigh on impossible if these kids are any good.

I am starting to get a really good feeling this potentially could become another Dayne Beams, Daniel Hannerbery and Luke Parker pick.

The type of pick people will look back and say how did this gun player slipped out to pick 40. I seriously think he will have more impact early on out of all our draftees. I could potentially see him breaking out in his 2nd or 3rd year of footy and push his name right up to the top.

A driven individual who was winning some big numbers in the SANFL. I feel in the AFL he will just continue to rack up the footy with ease.

By the sounds of the beep test he was right up at the pointy end and also apparently did mondays gruelling session just fine.

Looking forward to see him having a very successful AFL career.

Jesus Christ..

There is a lot to like about anb, reminds me of matty boyd can just see him being ultra consistent and complimenting other blokes extremely well

I have a feeling that this bloke will get some senior game time this year [and/or feature in the B&F at Casey].

I've been watching replays of the championships and watching his highlights more and more. I really think we have something special here. I don't think he'll be a Selwood or a Dangerfield but I see him playing 200 odd games.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
