Anzac Day Eve Clash

Melbourne Football Club v's Richmond Football Club

Round 4, Friday Night MCG 2015

A desire to play on Anzac Day eve - which will be a Friday night - is also set to be fulfilled, with the Tigers expected to host Melbourne in round four. Both clubs hope to make the Anzac Day eve clash a regular fixture.

Richmond to hog the MCG in 2015

Just read online that this is most likely the case in next years fixture, with it becoming a tradition if it goes well, which i imagine it would.

Absolutely love this, especially if we beat them like we did last year!

It's a Friday night next year, which is good, but i';m sure it will gain further momentum if it is on the eve of a public weekday holiday.

But for me, big thumbs up.

Is 70,000-80,000 at the G' an unreasonable target?

Brilliant news - I thought the AFL had put the kibosh on this one when it was brought up last year.

We got 56,910 when we played them earlier this year on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon. We'd both need to make solid starts to get 70,000, but it's certainly not out of the question.

Great work by PJ and his troops, I expect!!

Ofcourse Richmond get the home game and gate proceeds.

Let's make it a regular fixture, and rotate home ground benefits

Excellent. Even as an away game The MCC make $$$.

This is really solid. We can now honour all those fallen Demons at the 'G.

Then win.

Up until 2012, we played Richmond twice, with our home game being the 2nd game.

From then on we have played each other once with it being Richmond's home game.

I would expect this to continue, knowing how the AFL operate these days and we will be slung a few to 'level' it up a bit.

I would hope that the home game is rotating as it should be.

My greatest worry in this article is that Richmond play 14 games at the G next year, same as the filth.

Where are those extra games coming from?

Unless they've found a few more game slots at the G, then another tenant might lose a game or two (and get shunted to Etihad or elswhere).

It's conceivable the extra games are against co-tenants with no. change to the total number of games, but I wouldn't bank on it.

Didn't Carlton request extra games on the G, in place of Etihad?

I suppose we'll all find out next week.

We can now honour all those fallen Demons at the 'G.

As Titus O'Reilly tweeted this morning: The AFL has pledged to honour ANZAC Day by completely overshadowing it with football.

How do the stadium deals work? Do we still get any money if its our away game?

wondering the same. Surely there are areas inside the ground (northern side) where there are food and beverage deals for us.

Posted

this is the best bit of fixturing news we have had in a long time

well done to both the Demons and the Tigers (and the AFL) for making this happen

Posted

How long has it been since we played on a Friday night?

Round 7 2012 v hawks. Lost by 10 goals. Banned from Friday night footy after that.

Some washed up hack call Clark kicked 3 by qtr time.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
