Alex Georgiou delisted/ Nev Jetta upgraded

Featured Replies

Got his shot at it and did what most only dream of in playing some senior AFL footy.

Probably worth the year off from his career.

Also worth noting that the article mentions Max King getting retained for another year. Good on him!

Let's not kid ourselves, guy: he was awful. An average player in a bad side.

Let this no longer be a club of run-withs and deadbeats. We need good players. Depth is made up of good role players. He was not a role player.

Two rookie spots.....

From a personal view I thought Georgiou gave up a lot and had a good crack at it and was important in making the team competitive early in the year.

From a critical list management view:

187cm key defender with poor skills. Came in and did a job for us whilst Garland was injured and Frawley/Dunn were forward but the reality was he was only ever going to be depth. Why carry depth with limited potential when you are a bottom 4 side?

Tall defenders: McDonald, Frost

Medium defenders: Dunn, Garland, Howe

Swingman: Pedersen

There's enough coverage there for 3, maybe 4 spots in the team.

If we could get Mitch Brown from Geelong on the rookie list he has more ability than Georgiou, has the probably physical tools and can cover either end of the ground. Plus there's always a chance you can get his head switched on and he can actually make it as a long term player. He's just an example.

I agree with this. I think there will be another key back coming in the rookie draft. I was told it was going to be Tippett last year but north picked him first and this was something the club knew was a possibility.

Georgiou is not tall enough in today's footy to play the role he plays.

Glad he had a crack at it but I always thought that we can do better.

Saw a bit of Harmes at Casey and understand what the coaching staff see in him - never really understood what they saw in Georgiou

That he could beat opponents... that was his good.... disposal possibly not his forte....his bad.

I liked his game day attitude. and we move on I suppose :)

He made a sacrifice to take his chance, and he won't die wondering.

But I do think the term "list-clogger" should go on the (censored) list.

I would like for us to give Matthew Sully a spot on our rookie list.

196cm 95kg CHB who played some pretty impressive games for Geelong in the VFL this year and last year aswell.

Weren't we interested in him last year? I'd rather have a crack at Mitch Brown in the rookie draft if he doesn't get taken in the psd

i don't see how a one year rookie list player could possibly described as a list clogger

i know the english language gets mangled a lot but that is a bridge too far

Agreed dc and comments like that are also unnecessarily disrespectful to a bloke who had a genuine go.

You don't play SANFL for that many years if you aren't passionate about footy, but the financial realities are he's better off working as an engineer and presumably getting 70k minimum and then getting SANFL payments as a premiership full back on top of that and so more than likely taking home 6 figures. If he stayed on 55k as a rookie plus 3k per AFL game then he'll have to play more than 7 games a year to make nearly the same amount and every year you miss out on progressing your career.

He gave himself at least a year to make it as if he was upgraded then there's 200k per year for 2 years minimum and you can always go back to engineering later (and without a mortgage!).

The press release was more about saying what he had given up. If you have inside knowledge he was happy to walk away then so be it. Personally if the offer was there I'd have given it another year to see what can happen if I were him. If he can get his old job back (engineering and football at Norwood) then at least he wont be a player who crashed out of the system so I hope that's the case for him.

Either way risking it to make it an AFL is better than those clowns who give their jobs up to go on big brother!

People on Big Brother have jobs? Really?

Sorry but no dazzle. There is something eerily familiar and creepy about that surname that makes me feel unwell - just cant quite put my ..... I'll get it

I " like" this - unless of course you mean me then I actually dislike this.

I think we need Rangey to set up a poll of the expressions that need to be banned - the top three making the ban list and earning any poster who uses them an "elite" holiday from DL.

what's big brother ggrrm? is it some charity organisation?

Sort of.....it gives idlots a momentary tease at believing they arent !! :)

Thought he was reasonably solid in the few games he played. Good one on one, strong body, good depth. Surprised he was axed, given he was a rookie. Was certainly not a list clogger. Despite his awkward kicking style, his kicking effectiveness was high, from memory. People shouldn't judge his kicking by looks, rather by results. We'd have plenty of others in the backline whose disposal effectiveness would be worse.

He came in as a bit of insurance against Frawley leaving. Had we not been able to get some good defenders in this years trade/draft he would probably still be rookied next year. Roos and co were able to find better defenders so sadly had to let Alex go. He can go with his head held high.

His disposal efficiency was actually very good, but he didn't launch attacks and 40 metres was a long bomb to him - probably why he's gone.
